I enjoy using American Sign Language as both a fun creative outlet through interpretation, and as a tool to communicate with members of the Deaf community. I have taught vocabulary and culture to students levels 1-3 and try to add as many relevant cultural insights as possible to my lessons.

Students can expect to focus on fingerspelling, hand shapes, vocabulary, facial expression, body language, and ASL interpretation skills.

About Robert L.

Mixing has been my passion for over 5 years and I regularly DJ for underground parties and live streams hosted by promoters and friends. My partner and I have developed an easy-to-follow 6-step method through our brand Mix 'n Match Mentors that teaches the basic "order of operations" you should follow when mixing any two songs on any piece of equipment at any time.

Our stripped-back approach focuses on perfecting the techniques and tools available to vinyl DJs when mixing was first invented; this means learning beat matching and correction skills, proper use of FX and filters (as tools), crossfading, phrasing and timing.

Once a solid foundation has been set, students will have the opportunity to implement additional skills in layers at their own pace.

Robert was truly fantastic at teaching me the basics of DJ'ng. He first showed me the ropes and then let me try things while he watched and advised. Robert really knows his stuff, and has a knack for presenting things in an easy-to-follow manner which I could understand. In 5 short classes I went from knowing nothing to understanding the basics of mixing with confidence. He is also fun to work with, and very easygoing which is a big plus. I would highly recommend Robert to anyone looking to get started in DJ'ing.

There are many aspects of Robert that make him uniquely suited to instruct people in the art and skill of mixing:
* he's an extremely empathetic person so he's always on the same wavelength as his student.
* he's an exceptional communicator, as evidenced by his fluency in not only English and Spanish but ASL as well. More importantly than his multiple-language fluency, he has a natural aptitude for teaching and explaining things in an intuitive way.
* he's extremely passionate about live music performance, but especially the sounds that get people moving on the dance-floor. He also possesses an exceptional breadth of knowledge of dance music as a whole: the history, the artists, the genres, and all manner of tracks from timeless classics to fresh releases.

Robert has put a lot of thought into how to build the fundamentals of mixing from the ground up. I know, because I was one of the first people he taught. When we started, I was overwhelmed by the flashing lights and myriad buttons on the controller, and couldn't transition from one song to the next to save my life.

The many hours we spent teaching me to mix had two significant outcomes:
1. Not only do I feel comfortable stepping up to the decks to mix, it's actually something I REALLY enjoy and look forward to.
2. Robert developed the teaching framework he'll use to teach you, which focuses first on mastering critical fundamentals in an intuitive, step-by-step process.

If you're anything like me, listening (and dancing!) to dance music is something that brings you a great deal of joy.

Take it from me: the thrill of a perfectly-executed transition from one song to the next is an intensely gratifying and thrilling one. Being at the helm of a controller, you get to play an active role in the music, which is so much cooler than just passively enjoying it. Robert got me to that level.

He can get you there too.

Robert is an amazing DJ teacher!! Knows his stuff incredibly well and knows how to take complex subjects and make them very approachable. Robert is very patient but also great at challenging you to get outside your comfort zone and try new techniques. Also knows a ton about music and can meet you at any style you prefer to focus your DJing on. Whether you are just starting out or have been DJing for a bit and want to expand your skills, I couldn't recommend him more!

Robert is amazing at what he does. His taste in music is excellent, he loves DJing, and his excitement is infectious. He’s a natural-born leader/teacher and he’s just super fun to work with. The full range of things you can do with a DJ controller can be overwhelming. Robert will save you a lot of time by getting you focused on the essentials. He is detail-oriented, and his feedback is specific and actionable. He’ll point out things that weren’t even on your radar, and you’ll be better for it. Hopefully, you’ll be working with Michael as well. He’s a technical master, has an encyclopedic knowledge of all things funky and fresh, and he’s the nicest guy. I'm very happy to be working with these guys.

At the start of the quarantine I was having difficulty getting the feel for anything and everything DJing. It was brutal!, intimidating, terrifying, and sort of infuriating. Robert and Michael took the time to really break down the flow of what you need to do, how many beats do you count out, where the bass knob should be. They did everything to make transitions and blends super easy at the beginner level. I am still taking classes with them, and can’t wait to learn more. They have truly helped to boost my confidence
