Levels taught:
Middle School, High School, CollegeSome of the math subjects that I tutor are:
• algebra 1-3
• math 1-3
• advanced functions and modeling (AFM)
• pre-calculus algebra and trigonometry
• AP (or college) calculus 1
SAT/ACT tutoring:
I am skilled at discerning where students are in their present math knowledge, and then locating areas of improvement that I push them towards attaining. I also have experience with preparing students to take the SAT/ACT by helping them improve their potential math scores. I help them improve these scores by teaching them proper test taking skills, increasing their abilities, and with time saving techniques.
My method for giving students college-readiness, is to instill values in them by teaching them how competitive college can be, and by teaching them how to train themselves to be top notch students once they begin higher education at the school of their choice. Lessons on study skills, people skills to get to know professors in a professional manner, and time management are a few of the extra things that I can help them with.
About Randal S.
I developed a love of teaching after receiving my bachelor's in electrical engineering from Clemson University. I began tutoring while looking for an engineering job, and I decided I loved it! This love, and my skill, continued to develop while pursuing my master's in mathematics and statistics Education at North Carolina State University. After obtaining my master's degree, my love for teaching math eventually turned into a teaching job at Wake Technical Community College, and another teaching job at Durham Technical Community College.
From personal experience and social interactions, I have determined that many people just get frustrated with these tough subjects and just quit trying. I know that with a lot of work, and perhaps some professional help to figure out where they got lost, they are capable of doing whatever I can do or more. Once I began teaching, I quickly found that I was created with the gift of being an effective and caring teacher. I truly enjoy finding out where students are struggling, and helping to build them up so that they can master college in whatever major they decide to take on. I look forward to working with you and helping to make you into whatever you want to be!
