Primary to the course content was the necessary experience of being an online learner, which all participants gained in this completely online course. Course content focused on different facets of a successful online language course, such as creating community, national standards for course development, teacher readiness to teach online, and choosing appropriate technology tools for communicative-based activities. Participants experienced and developed a variety of online activity types (oral/written, synchronous/asynchronous) for the 3 communication modes (interpretive/interpersonal/presentational). In addition to exploring these aspects of teaching online, participants saw these concepts in action, modeled in the course itself and in a model Russian activity series. Participants created an ePortfolio with items produced in the course as a final project.
