I am a retired "orgo" professor with 22 years of teaching experience. During my office hours I have worked one-on-one with more than 150 students to help them achieve higher grades in this course, and tutoring has always been my favorite part of my job. You’ve probably heard from former students that orgo covers a large amount of material – and that’s true. But I will teach you tools that will help you learn it all and keep the facts straight. We’ll constantly refer back to the fundamental ideas of chemistry to build on what you already know. We’ll discover patterns in orgo that will enable you to see how topics that seem quite different have a lot in common with each other. Then you’ll be able to organize what you’re learning and see how all the different reactions we study fit into a few simple categories. Seeing these patterns makes learning much easier. Although you’ll learn dozens of reactions, you’ll also see that 95% of organic reactions fall into one of just 8 families. Master them and you’ll find you can develop a deep and lasting understanding of the new reactions that you meet. I like to take a few minutes from time to time to show how what we are studying relates to daily life. There are lots of examples of topics: medicinal drugs and vitamins. As for hobbies, I enjoy singing and listening to music, cycling, and cooking exotic foreign meals.
