Mandarin Chinese with Patrick H.

I am a 21 year old senior at the University of Notre Dame! I love learning new languages--I speak Mandarin, Spanish, and German--and I love helping others learn as well. It is a great way to increase your social skills, and the little miscommunications when learning a new language are my favorite things about it. As for my background in Mandarin, I have studied Mandarin intensively over the last several years at Notre Dame. I took advantage of the amazing Chinese program we have at ND and was able to go to Beijing twice, for a total of four months of intensive language study, during which time I was not allowed to speak English. Because of this, I am familiar with many of the colloquial phrases and conversational phrases used in Chinese, as well as the more formal and academic register learned at more advanced levels. I specialize in helping with pronunciation and study strategies for Chinese, but my expertise is not limited to these areas. I have a very thorough understanding of Chinese grammar, and a very broad vocabulary. I also am very skilled at breaking down the structure and meaning of Chinese syntax and vocab to make it very easy for beginning learners and those who are struggling to get into that "Mandarin mindset."
