About Owen M.
Here's a bit about myself:
Since 2016, I've been teaching math to high school and elementary students. I've always loved it. With teaching, I feel that I've grown more patient and more thoughtful in my general life. I recommend that anyone with the means try their hand at teaching. It is a particularly rewarding thing in and of itself.
The summer of 2016, I wrote the music, conducted, and acted as musical director for a full-scale musical entitled Get Hooked: A Pirate Musical. Currently, I'm working on a second full-length project, entitled Nuclear Love, that is set to be produced and performed in the spring of 2020.
I also have experience doing rock and jazz gigs on my electric bass. If you or student is also interested in learning these styles, I'd be more than happy to oblige!
My favorite books are Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Giver, Ishmael, 1984, The Chess Garden, Invisible Man, Labyrinths, and Life of Pi.
My favorite quote is "infinity and beyond." Granted, there is no such thing as 'beyond' - unless you're referring to the power set of infinity. Honestly, I just love infinity. I could talk about the infinite hotel and fractals forever (pun noted and kept).
I've been taking French classes for about 5 years now. If you're interested in having a charming conversation in slightly broken French, je suis ton mec!
There are a few things more inspiring to than helping a student triumphantly arrive at a solution. Or watching them nail a big shift that was giving them trouble the week before. Learning anything comes with struggle, with difficulty, and I've certainly had my share of practice frustration. It's important to understand that such an experience is part of the process. I have no doubt that with the right ethic, the right teacher, and a desire to learn, anything can be achieved.
