### Lesson Details

### Math

- Levels Taught:
- Elementary, Middle School, High School, College

Before the lessons, I like to talk with parents, students, and/or teachers to fully gauge what they have been struggling with and how to best help them. Then I identify the student's gap in knowledge while helping them complete their homework and give them additional drilling problems as needed to help them fully master the materials and do well on their tests. I always carry around books containing extra problems depending on the students' levels and goals.

Since geometry questions, especially proofs, are not very obvious, I often gift students a list of things to look for to help them identify how to approach the proofs,

I have taught students anywhere from 4th grade to adults, including college algebra. I especially have extensive experience with gifted students, and I also have helped students with the math competition problems, such as AMC and Kangaroo Math, and other enrichment problems, such as Russian Math and math scholarship papers.

For the best results, I recommend 1.5-hour of lessons twice a week. However, this will also depend on the student's mathematical background. If this schedule does not work for you though, I would love to discuss with you so that we can come up with schedule that works well for you. ### About

- Teaches students:
- Females 5+ and males 5 to 30
- Teaching since:
- May 2010

I'm an MIT tutor specializing in math and test prep, and I have taught math (anywhere from prealgebra to calculus) for 6 years. I have gotten perfect scores on SAT Math, SAT Subject Test Math Level 2, and ACT Math, and I also recently helped one of my students raise his SAT scores from 670 to 800 in a month. I also have taken AP Calculus BC (single-variable calculus) in high school and Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations at MIT. I have been an active member of math team from elementary to high school, and my sister and I solve math problems for fun in our spare time.

I'm passionate about learning and student development. I read about learning hacks when I'm tired, and, in my ideal vacation, I would learn about all things that are on my bucket list (yes, I'm serious). I'm also near-obsessed about students' experiences and their development and nearly always think about the ways to improve their experiences. The student testimonials below confirm their excellent experiences.

“I would not have passed my test in such a short time without her. I hired her a week before my test. She was very professional and very smart, and she used different technique to help me remember.”

- Fabiola L.

“Calc is going great. I got all A’s on my first three tests. Thank you for all your help!”

- Mark G.

“My daughter is so happy about her A in math. Thank you for everything you are teaching her!”

- S., Newton, MA

I believe in in-depth learning. In-depth learning helps my student build the foundation necessary to succeed in their future courses. To facilitate this type of learning, many of my lessons feature derivation of formulas. For the lessons that do not involve formulas, I present a few simple concepts from which we can derive and solve many other problems. My lessons also feature numerous questions to enhance student engagement and to improve student confidence of having them solve the problem on their own as much as possible. I then drill my students with practice problems and get them to explain until I'm fully convinced that my students truly understood the material.

Though I specialize in gifted students, I also have worked with students from all kinds of background. Most of my students are either high school or college students, but I also worked with younger students. I also helped some students implement organizational tips and develop study skills necessary to succeed in their future classes. My students are from all over the world--China, France, Korea, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Vietnam, and United States. To this day, my closest friends are still the international students. English is my second language as well, and I certainly empathize with students who struggle with the English language.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you think we may be good fit!
