Hello! I am a NY state certified teacher who specializes in both General Ed and Special Ed English for adolescents. I have a BA in English and Philosophy, and MAs in teaching both English and students with disabilities. I taught in NYC public high schools for 6 years, working with gifted students, ESL students, and students with disabilities, including Autism and those with gaps in formal schooling. I've tutored elementary and middle school aged students in anything from learning to read to improving writing. I have also taught private lessons in English as a Second Language and TOEFL prep.

I am available for English speaking students of any age or ability who wish to better their reading and/or writing skills. I am also available for non-English speakers who wish to learn or improve their English as a second language. This includes test prep for the TOEFL exam.

I offer my students individualized and researched-based classes that are tailored to both their needs and their interests. I am constantly assessing students' work and responding with appropriate lessons that target the skills they still need to develop. My instruction always includes writing and reading skills, as well as opportunities for reflective thought, conversation, and personal connection.

I am a warm person with a curious mind, and I love meeting and getting to know new people. As a trained professional teacher, I am patient with my students and insightful about what they need to grow.

About Meg C.

Hello! I am a state-certified teacher who taught for 6 years in NYC public schools. I received Masters Degrees at Fordham University in both teaching English literature in grades 7-12 and teaching students with disabilities.

I have experience teaching general education students and ESL students, as well as those with special needs such as Autism, learning disabilities, behavioral challenges, and the gifted and talented. I have tutored students in algebra, basic Spanish, and reading/writing at all levels from emerging to advanced. I also have experience tutoring in English as a foreign language, from beginner classes to those geared towards preparing for the TOEFL.

I am dedicated to my students’ academic and emotional growth, and I aim at all times to reach the whole student. As a tutor, I strive to nurture in my students the skills they need to become successful, whether they are trying to excel at school or simply develop a hobby. I design and teach lessons that emphasize core reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in the context of larger ideas, based on both students’ needs and interests.

I strive to inspire in my students a true enjoyment for learning. To that end, I design lessons that are clear, well structured, and engaging. I work with students who have a wide range of needs and interests, and I differentiate lessons accordingly. Though I am certified to teach adolescents, I have experience tutoring students as young as 5 years old, as well as those well into adulthood. I am experienced in test prep, study skills, TOEFL prep, and ESL, and I enjoy tutoring students from a myriad of backgrounds.

I look forward to helping you grow and learn with lesson that are engaging, effective, and fun!
