Levels Taught Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced (ASL Mentoring for certified or non-certified ASL interpreter) Do you want to improve your ASL skills and pass your ASL courses to earn the credits? Do you want to enhance your interpreting skills? You come here at the right place. I am fully Deaf and using American Sign Language since I was 4 years old. I communicate with ASL at a deaf school, Rochester Institute of Technology and Gallaudet University. I worked at four deaf residential schools for 21 years. I taught ASL classes at all levels at 5 colleges and a university for 16 years. I used all units/lessons in Signing Naturally (Units 1 to 25). I was Deaf Mentor, teaching basic signs to the families in the Bay Area for almost two years. I am currently tutoring with ASL students for 5 years. I took Deaf Culture, ASL Linguistics courses and Internship at Portland Community College in Oregon. I received a BA degree in Psychology and MA degree in School Counseling and Guidance at Gallaudet University. I obtained a teaching credential in Adult, Children Development and Family Services at California State University, San Bernardino in May 2020. I will receive my School Counselor Certificate through Maryland State Department of Education in July 2023. I want to ensure that my students feel comfortable learning about ASL grammar structures, in-depth Deaf culture and history, and dialogue skills. My classes are fully engaging, immersing and thriving students' expressive and receptive skills. The lessons help you to increase your vocabulary, conversational skills and formal presentations in ASL. My goal is to help you making the progress to become fluent in ASL. I send my student a recorded video link after each lesson to review and practice ASL skills Here is the list of the areas to improve your American Sign Language skills: ASL Grammar Structure Fingerspelling Skills Everyday Dialogue Skills Numbers 5 Parameters Signing Space Time Concept Informal and Formal Introduction ASL Storytelling Classifiers Facial Expression Receptive and Expressive Skills WH- questions General Topics Constructive Feedback on interpreting skills (ASL interpreters) About Maureen B: I am a mother of a DeafBlind daughter I adopted from India 15 years ago. She learned ASL at age of 5. She signs fluently. I had 5 cats for 21 years. I currently work as a School Counselor with middle school students at Maryland School for the Deaf. I enjoy reading, travelling, watching the movies and cooking healthy meals. I live near the mountains and the beaches-perfect places to unwind and tune into nature. Fun fact: I was on the backpack trip in 10 counties for 7 weeks in Europe. I met many deaf people from all over the world at the Deaf Olympics in Copenhagen, Denmark. My favorite quote is "Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know and capable of more than you imagine".

Maureen was absolutely gracious and welcoming. I was nervous about tutoring in general, and a little embarrassed at my level of signing ability (the reason to get a tutor I suppose!) and she helped me feel at ease and empowered. Looking forward to more sessions!

I wanted to wait a while before posting a review for Maureen, but it's been a couple of months now and I have to say she's a brilliant teacher. I had some foundational ASL but little grammar, and she has systematically put me through my paces. I feel like I'm not just learning signs, but how to Sign with some proper structure. I really wanted a native speaker, and although I think it makes the language more challenging to understand, it also feels like I'm getting more equipped to communicate with Deaf people. Also, Maureen has a ton of resources, not only for her lessons but also movies, videos and information about Deaf history and culture. She is also sensitive to my goals with ASL and, perhaps most importantly, is a really nice person. I really feel like I'm learning a lot and enjoying it immensely.
