Professional teacher and my favorite game: I've played this over 50 years.
So you'd like to play the card game bridge? I've been playing since I was 10--and that's a long time! These lessons are intended for beginners or low intermediate players. I will take you from just knowing the name of the game, all the way to how to bid and play. I can do this one on one, or with you and a partner. Can you learn bridge on line? Take a look at my reviews. 33 happy students, and counting--I'd answer "yes, you can"! If you already know the game a little, and would like to do some playing--grab a partner and a deck of cards, and let's meet on line to play the grand daddy of all card games. It is an absolutely wonderful time. For these lessons, you'll meet my husband AND me, and we'll play bridge "virtually" with YOU! Note: If you are a beginner-- I recommend either one 90 min lesson or two 60 min lessons for your first lesson. It will take that long for the first lesson. After that-- depends on your card sense. Most people seem to need 4-5 lessons before they can manage to do a lesson in only 45 minutes. It is difficult or impossible to teach the complicated bidding and play of bridge in less than an hour, initially. If you wish to have 45 minute lessons, ask me. I sometimes make them available for special needs/accommodations. After you become more familiar with the basics of play, we can likely accomplish all you need in 45 minutes--but we will not have a lot of time for your questions. Hope that helps you as you decide what level to invest in this activity. :) ALSO-- If you want to do lessons as a group of two or four-- I would be happy to accommodate, and adjust the price a bunch for you. Let me know if you would like to sign up with this option.
About Marta B.

Hello... I am a science and math teacher who loves to teach. After teaching many years in traditional and non-traditional classrooms, both in the USA and overseas, I began to teach on-line. One of the big surprises to me has been the number of students who have wanted to learn the card game Bridge. I LOVE teaching bridge, and have had 50+ students take lessons from me in the last year alone. If you are reading this, you may be looking for a tutor for something academic. Do you have a middle schooler who struggles with math? Pick me! Are you someone who would like to jump out of traditional school and complete your GED or ASVAB? I've helped many students/adults do this over the last 10+ years. Do you have a young high school student who struggles with writing or science or even just keeping organized? I'd love to help. Are you homeschooling and need a bit of structure? I can help! Another thing that you might want to know about me is that I've won teaching awards. And, I've also been filmed for a documentary known as "This American Land" with high school students some years ago. I've linked it below in the Photos and Videos section. It's described like this: "On a small island off Washington's coast, high school students create barriers with oil-absorbing mushrooms to filter stormwater runoff that drains into the ocean." The whole program is about an hour long, but the section of me and my students can be found at Minute Marker 15:08. If you watch the video you'll be able to see me talk, and hear my students talk about some of what they learned that year. When you look at my profile picture, you might notice a funny looking window above my face. That is the window in the ocean submersible named "Cyclops" which I got to visit in September 2018. Cyclops was visiting Friday Harbor Labs in the San Juan Islands in Washington State, which is near my home. I love to be outside, and I have taught science in the outdoors for much of my career. I have run outdoor schools, taught swimming, sailing, rowing and canoeing, and also taught in traditional classrooms at elementary, middle school, high school and college levels. I have taught mostly math and science, but I've taught all subjects at one time or another. I hope I get a chance to meet you and work with you on line -- either teaching you a new game, or helping you with other things you (or your children) need to learn. Sincerely, Marta

Working with Sequoia of "Sequoia's Treehouse" I programed, developed the curriculum, did the state paperwork, and taught the first semester of the 5th Certified all day outdoor Preschool in the State of Washington for the pilot project that the state was hosting. Look them up online to see some of the programming that continues to take place there. I trained new staff and moved on to other projects after the state paperwork was completed and the school was well off the ground.

OASIS (Orcas Alternative Student Initiated Studies) Middle and High School
When my district decided to open an alternative school, they asked if I would set it up and run it. I did so, keeping in mind that we had many alternative students to serve. We had some a few students wishing to take classes that our small district didn't offer. (Film making, Portuguese, Latin, Tai Chi..you name it!) We had some students that needed to travel a lot and be gone because they were world class performers-- a skier, a cello player, a concert pianist. We had some students that just really wanted to be done with High School and get into community college. We had others that needed to work full time and take classes asynchronously. And we had students with medical issues that could not attend school full time because they had surgeries and long recovery periods, or other medical issues. Under the Alternative Learning Laws here in WA state, I fashioned a school that has now stood the test of time. During the first four years of my tenure, I was the lone teacher at the school. Although I left in 2013, it is still going strong.
