Coaching kids from 5-17 and ranging from beginner to advanced. Beginning with the rules of the game and progressing to tactical and positional puzzles and analyzing students' games.

Chess Coach

I have been coaching students of all ages for the past decade. I am currently coaching for Kids Play Chess in elementary and middle schools while working on improving myself (I intend to become a GM within the next 10 years). I have also taught chess in high school and college environments. I've to chosen to begin coaching 1 on 1 so I can develop more personalized regimens for my students and get the most out of my time and yours. I am currently rated 1900 USCF and have been playing for the past 25 years (since I was three). I would love for you to come and join me on an adventure to become the best chess players possible while having fun along the way!

I find that even though chess is a calculated game of strategy, it is important to utilize creativity and critical thinking skills alongside a strong fundamental base. With that being said, chess has one variable component: the players. When coaching it's important to realize what your students' strengths and weaknesses are in order to maximize progress.

Mark and I had a great time!  He's very knowledegable and isn't afraid to share his secrets to winning chess.  I also appreciate his flexibility in answering my questions about openings and then playing a couple of games.
