Sign Language

Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
Let me help you avoid the sand traps and instead enjoy this beautiful language. With my 2 years of tutoring experience and many years of signing I know that everyone has their own reason for learning the language. Therefore, I teach every student differently. I have been signing for most of my life and I used to be an interpreter in Michigan.

I am passionate about learning language, as a side project I am learning 2 languages as well as of course keeping up on the latest ASL additions. Through my language learning journey I have picked up many great ways to memorize vocabulary and learn new grammar points, plus I have gained the understanding of what it is like to learn a new language as an adult. Don't believe the myth that it is harder for adults to learn new languages. It just isn't true and I can prove it to you :)

Teaching since:

I have been signing for most of my life. Growing up I lived in an area with many deaf children and so as a result I learned sign language. As an adult I went through a 2 year Interpreter Training Program. I then became a certified Interpreter in the state of Michigan.

When my husband and I moved to Portland, OR I shifted my focus to teaching ASL. I have taught students of differing levels and age ranges and can easily adapt to your skill level and reasons for learning the language. I am also able to teach you about deaf history, culture, interpreting and ASL Linguistics if you are interested.

I'm passionate about teaching and learning languages. I am currently learning 2 languages on my own. I know what it is like to learn a new language as an adult and I have learned many great ways of harnessing the knowledge that we have as adults, about ourselves and learning in general, to make learning ASL easier and more enjoyable for my students.
