Do you have a passion--something you love doing, something that brings you great joy and satisfaction--one of my passions is teaching English and ESL. I love teaching, and I love languages. When I am teaching English or ESL, I become energized and totally involved in the moment. It's a great feeling, and I use this positive energy to make my teaching the best it can be for the student--exciting, interesting, informative, and never boring.

I remember when I was in graduate school working toward my MA degree in English, and I had a very boring professor for one of my classes. He sat in front of the class and talked non-stop for three hours. He was incredibly boring, and it was difficult to stay awake in his class. At that moment, I decided that I would never teach like this professor, that my teaching would never be so boring, and if it ever became that way, it would be time to quit teaching rather than have my students sit through such boring lessons.

In addition, if you sign up with me, not only will your lessons be very interesting, they will be presented by someone who knows what it is like to learn a foreign language. I learned French as a child and also studied Turkish when living in Turkey, and Urdu when living in West Pakistan. Having lived and traveled extensively overseas, I am familiar with many cultures and I respect everyone's culture no matter where they come from.

By signing up for lessons with me, you will not only improve your English, you will have a lot of fun in doing so.

About Linda C.

I’m Linda, and teaching English or English as a Second Language (ESL) to students of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds is my passion. I have almost 30 years teaching experience, and I have taught all levels of English and ESL. My students have come from many parts of the world, from worlds very different than my own, but I have always been able to quickly establish a good rapport with them.

I relate well to my students because I have traveled, lived, studied, and worked overseas in parts of the world where my students often come from. I lived in West Pakistan for 5 years where I attended middle school, and my classmates and friends were from Pakistan, India and Great Britain. I traveled the countryside and visited many nearby countries, learning about the people and their customs, an experience which opened my eyes to fascinating worlds very different than my own.

In college, I lived, studied, and traveled throughout France. Living with only French students, I studied the French language and culture. Years later, I lived and worked in Turkey where I taught English, and in Oman where I taught English and French. I learned about the culture of both countries not only through my daily contact with the local people, but also by visiting the homes of my students who shared their lives with me, allowing me to learn about their culture first hand.

In addition, I have a Master’s degree in English with a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages emphasis plus a teaching credential in French with a cultural focus and an English as a Foreign Language certificate. The degree, credential, and certificate all contribute in different ways toward my training in the teaching of English and ESL. I’m fluent in French having learned it as a child, and I learned basic Turkish as an adult. Consequently, I know what it is like to learn a language that is not your first language, and I know how difficult it can be to learn a new language as an adult.

If you want a teacher who creates an environment where students want to learn, who makes her lessons as interesting as possible, who brings enthusiasm to every lesson, who gets her students actively involved in their learning, who makes learning fun and easy, and who teaches you what you want to learn, then I hope that you will sign up for lessons with me.

Due to Covid-19, I am only offering online lessons for the safety of my students and myself. I look forward to meeting you online soon.

Linda is an excellent teacher whose commitment and dedication is excellent.

I supervised Linda as she worked as a naturalist leading thousands of school children through a variety of nature themed subjects. She was able to ensure each student understood the topic and was an claiming presence during the programs.

I recommend Linda for any teaching assignment she endeavors to undertake.

I was glad to work with Linda while she was the Naturalist at Placer Nature Center. She brought many strengths to the position, which I had seen filled by others before her.
Her full career in education prepared her to make sense of the lightly organized accumulation of resources that she had to work with and to rationalize them to the needs and realities of the program pre-COVID-19. She reviewed, reorganized and rewrote lessons and programs as needed and was able to communicate clearly with the various volunteers, interns and staff.
Linda is very committed to children, which was evident in her faithfully meeting each group personally to make them welcome and be sure they remained safe. During a period when she could walk only with effort and support, she smilingly led nature walks and kept her teaching skills fresh.
Linda is a dedicated teacher whose classes are sure to be the best!

I have worked with Linda as a docent with a nature center in Auburn, California.
Linda was able to write very descriptive lesson plans taken from we docents working with children at the nature center. Linda took all of our experiences in sharing programs and wrote comprehensive lesson plans.
Linda is enjoyable and easy with which to work.

Linda has been an invaluable mentor to me. Thanks to her, I was able to grow & take on greater roles. Today I have my dream job working at the Pine Hill Preserve to conserve listed plant species. We worked together with school-aged children at the Placer Nature Center. She is a fun & positive influence. I believe the lesson plans she designed sparked many young naturalists and hopefully future conservation biologists. Because while they were playing & having fun in nature, they were being exposed to scientific concepts such as the water cycle, ecological niches, human impacts or selection pressures.
