English (ESL) with Leigh N.

Background: I have a bachelor's degree in English Language Arts Education, and a Master's degree in English. I am certified through 300 hours of training to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). I was a high school English teacher for ten years, and for the last five years, I have been an adjunct college professor, teaching both Composition and English as a Second Language (ESL). I have also taught English online to students in China, and worked in my college's tutoring center to help students one-to-one. Teaching Style: I meet students at their level and help them advance through lessons and guided practice. Once I know the student's level, my goal of the first lesson is to determine what activities are most effective as they learn. Depending on the student and their specific learning needs, I use activities like pronunciation practice, conversation with new vocabulary, learning games, written practice, visual aids, music, physical learning, and independent practice or homework (optional but encouraged). On top of my education and experience, I have been in your position as a student learning a new language. Whatever mistakes you make, I have probably done the same thing when I was learning to speak Spanish, so I will never think poorly of you and I will help you master your weaknesses. Most of all, I try to have fun and make my sessions something that my students enjoy as they work. In my 15 years as a high school and college English teacher, I have never had a student that I didn't like. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about them, and you will see from our first session how genuine that is. When you practice and learn from your mistakes in a friendly setting, you will gain confidence to use English in real-world situations.
