I am a fully bilingual Engineer with a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Long Beach State University. Most of my teaching experience throughout my college years was in Mathematics. I used to have an Algebra workshop two to three times a week in which I had students from several classes. The process involved was going to each of the professors during class time and invite the students to the workshop where they could not only learn from but also from each other. For instance whenever I assigned a problem to be worked on the board I would have a student start the problem and have him/her stop after a few lines and get someone else to continue the problem. This encouraged them to pay close attention and wherever appropriate teach them to find errors. During the workshops I had an occasional student whose first language was not English and felt more comfortable with me explaining the problem in Spanish.
I also worked as a bilingual student aid for the Torrance Unified School District in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. My main functions were to administer the English as a Second Language(ESL) placement exam at several of the Adult Education Schools and to assist ESL students with limited understanding of the English language during class.
