I have been a language teacher for more than 24 years. I have a B.A. in English Language and Literature and my curriculum includes several subjects related to Spanish grammar, composition, phonetics and literature, so apart from being my native language (I am Cuban) I have the necessary academic knowledge to teach Spanish to speakers of other languages. I have worked mainly with adults in colleges and language schools. At the university level I worked with students from different professional interests, so I am familiar with teaching the language for specific academic skills. I have also tutored individual adults and teenagers. At present I am also teaching children in an after school program. In my teaching I favor the communicative approach with meaningful exchanges and with a solid foundation on the formal aspects of the language too. I also pay attention to individual needs so that students can progress at their own pace. At the intermediate and advanced levels I favor the use of meaningful discussions and debate about updated issues, so that the students can learn how to express their true opinions and ideas properly in different contexts. I believe in fostering a friendly atmosphere and making the teaching experience a meaningful human exchange.
