Poetry with Aphrx A.

I am a proficient spoken word poet. I am well known in Kenosha, Wisconsin for heart stopping and soul shaking performances. My students should expect to improve weekly on their writing skills. Students will learn a variety of poetry styles such as sonnets, haiku, limericks, free verse, etc. So that they will be familiarized with divergent poetry styles. Poetry is a way to express the higher/creative self through word magic. Studies show that poetry reduces the feeling of fear, sadness, anger, fatigue and alleviates symptoms of depression and help those who are experiencing trauma to process their emotions in a healthy manner. My purpose is to show my students that poetry can be a fun and therapeutic go to. Poetry is about making your feelings flood on paper, then cultivating a connection with the audience through your true expression. I help my students become confident, profound, and tempestuous in their performances. For those students whom are avid poets I support them in finding poetry events and walk them through creating poetry events. Additionally I teach my students to create art for themselves to share to the world. To empower them and understanding that They are the source, they are the divinity. Last year I performed in over 20 events in Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee, Wisconsin as well as Indianapolis Indiana. I created poems for activists in communities across the world. I’ve done performances for Brit’s Poetry Closet, Kenosha Creative Space, Female Only Artist, UW- Parkside, Lyric Sanctuary, just to mention a few. I love connecting with poets and aspiring poets and help people spark the flame of growth that comes from sharing your heart with your community. My favorite type of poem to teach students is free verse because it is the most organic and free form way of writing poems and you cannot do it wrong. It also helps my students become familiar with their writing style and experiences of different emotions and focusing what they want their community to experience from their art.
