I moved to America from Russia over six years ago. I have lived in quite a few places and have seen quite a few things for my young age! Back in high school, I always loved the "nerdy" subjects and anything that was related to them. I even was a member of the high school robotics team where my friends and I have competed in the First Tech Challenge several years in a row and even won a couple of medals.
But I also was on my high school swim and water polo teams. In 2015 I participated in the Junior Olympics representing Rose Bowl Aquatic Center Water Polo Club located in Pasadena, CA. For those of you who don't know, water polo is a lot like a mix of soccer and drowning - always fun but can get intense very fast!
When I moved to Maryland with my family, I had to stop playing water polo because it was not so common here to have a high school team. I kept swimming and playing volleyball instead which really made my days more enjoyable and helped me find new friends in a new place.
I went to Montgomery College upon graduating from Walter Johnson High School and dedicated my first two years toward studying Psychology and Brain Sciences and later was accepted to UC Berkeley. I was so ready to go back to California but changed my mind last minute and transferred to the University of Maryland College Park instead where my interest in Psychology magically turned into a Mechanical Engineering major.
There were always a lot of things that interested me in life and this is not even a third of them - that is why there was so much fluctuation in my commitments. But whenever I cared about something, I gave it my 100% and I hope that I can inspire you to do the same!

My oldest son Leo who wants to study Aerospace Engineering when he goes to college will be a senior this year. Last year he took AP Physics 1 and struggled quite a lot in the first couple of months. Alex started coming to us over winter and by the end of the school year Leo could solve problems harder than the ones given on the practice AP test. This year he will be taking AP Physics C and I do not even think we need tutors anymore. Leo says Alex was much more patient than his school teacher and listened carefully to what Leo was confused about every time it happened.Show More
Alex is super good at explaining why and how things worked using real world examples in a very engaging way. He's an instructor for whom tutoring is a genuine passion for the education of others. He patiently ensures that I thoroughly understand the subject matter and that I do not just memorize the content of the lesson for testing-related purposes (as I have in the past). His style of teaching assures that I meaningfully retain the information to ensure that it is applicable to my immediate education as well as real-world future endeavors. Going into my test tomorrow with confidence that I will get a 100%.Show More

Let us be honest here - we all have fallen behind in studies at some point in our lives. We are human after all! That, however, does not mean we cannot get back on track. All it takes is a bit of consistency; but when you have an opportunity to learn in a more informal environment with help of someone who is not much older than you, you get that extra personal connection that may help you navigate through the material easier and show that after all, learning can be enjoyable if done correctly.
Though I am a third-year college student majoring in Physics, my experience already includes tutoring peers and younger K-12 students since junior year of High School. I also have had experience tutoring math and physics to kids diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, so yes, I can explain things REALLY well. I also have experience incorporating material learned into a practical application, so when your nihilism takes over and you ask yourself about why you have to know this, I will have an answer for you!
