Chantilly W.

Beacon, NY

About Chantilly

I’m Chantilly… Hello and welcome to my Takelessons info page!

My philosophy is all about zeroing in on your personal strengths and building up new skills around them. Studying with me will help your technique, boost your confidence, and will be the foundation of a prosperous creative future. It’s my personal goal to make sure you have a great experience!

I have a formal musical education, with a degree in composition from Purchase College, (Regina Spektor also graduated from this program!), 6 years of experience as a solo performer, and worked extensively in recent years on writing s
ongs, and releasing recordings (my producer plays keys for Ingrid Michaelson! )

My most recent highlights include placing my songs in an independent film, as well as the show Dance Moms on Lifetime TV :) See videos below.

I’m also a founding member of NYC group Noise Collective, and am currently running songwriting and performance workshops through them. I work with industry executives from Island Records, Razor and Tie Publishing, the Agency Group Booking, and more. This gives me fresh perspectives on current music, and how to approach a successful career!

(If this is your aim… I’m also just as happy helping people whose sole goal is to learn to sing better in the shower!)

I have been a teacher for 6 years, specializing in one-on-one lessons, loving the thrill of helping students grow to their fullest potential.

I realize that there are a lot of options out there, and am honored to be considered for your needs!

*** Studio Equipment ***
- Extra guitar available.
- For voice, I record our lessons, and send you Mp3's after each lesson as a practice tool.

*** Travel Equipment ***
- I bring my guitar, and expect students to have their own.
- For singing, it would be best if students had a program like Garage Band to record, and practice to the lessons.

Chantilly was a really awesome teacher. Over the weeks I learned so much and gained a lot of control over my voice. Also as someone who never sings in front of anyone she really helped me feel comfortable doing so. If she didn't move away I would still be taking lessons with her. Highly recommend! She's a really sweet person and she is very good at explaining concepts and helping you to understand.

Chantilly is great, very encouraging and approachable, but in a genuine way. Even in a short time I've noticed I can sound better and stronger than I did before. The recordings of our lessons are very helpful for practicing at home and gauging progress over time.

Chris D.

Poughkeepsie, NY

About Chris

Chris D. is a professional drum instructor located in the Dutchess County area. He has been playing drums and percussion for 26 years, and has taught in the Dutchess county area for 12 years. In 2008 Chris founded and built a lesson and recording studio in Poughkeepsie designed specifically for drummers.

Private Lessons: I teach many styles of music such as Rock, Metal, Blues, Jazz, Latin, Funk, R&B and more. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced drummer, I have a lot of valuable knowledge to share. I will teach you vital exercises, rudiments and coordination to build up your technique,
whether it's on a marching snare or on the drum set. You will learn how to read and write drum notation as well as how to transcribe your favorite songs. In my studio I'll show you how to use all the latest hardware and online media to help you get the most out of each practice session. While studying under me, you will receive individualized lessons utilizing the latest technology and time proven traditional methods.

All Ages: I teach all ages and skill levels, from the drum pad to the drum set. No matter how young the student, learning to play an instrument and read music is invaluable to their education.

-I help my younger students prepare for middle school and high school level orchestra as well as preparation for NYSSMA. I also prepare my students for college music auditions and solo pieces.

-With my adult students I help them schedule music into their busy lives. There is no reason to put off playing an instrument if it's something you always wanted to do. A lot of my adult students commute to New York City and work long hours. So whether you work full-time, have a busy college schedule or commute to work, I'll help you build a practice schedule around your busy life. There is no reason to put off playing an instrument because you don't think you have the time.

All Skill Levels:

- With my beginner students I teach them the proper control they need to progress with the least amount of frustration. They will learn to read notation which will help me to guide them through all the techniques and exercises to follow. Most importantly, they will have fun while learning to play drums the correct way.

-With my advanced students you will learn more complex music theory (such as polyrhythms and odd time signatures). We will cover many of the different styles of music, as well as the techniques which make them unique. We will work on your speed and precision so you can play along to those songs that were always beyond your ability. I'll help you gain independence with each limb in order to maximize your playing potential. Most importantly I will show you how to enjoy your time behind the drum set, which will help you get the most out of each practice session.

Why Take Lessons: There is so much more to taking a drum lesson than just learning how to play a beat in a song. I will instruct and guide you weekly to help you build a solid foundation and progress at your own speed. Some of my top students have taken lessons with me for close to 9 years and they are able to play things that they never imagined possible. If you’re ready to put in the time and study hard, I will teach you the information and techniques to become your best.

If you’re ready for fun and professional drum instruction, then contact me to get started.

Vito C.

Hopewell Junction, NY

About Vito

Music is my passion, and my life. I have grown up surrounded by music since I can remember, from my humble beginnings hanging out with my father in his friend's music store, to managing a music store of my own!

Since I was a young boy, all I ever wanted to do was play the drums, and I have been fortunate to do so for close to two decades. I have been molding young minds in the way of the drum since 2008, as I was on my way to receive my B.A. in Music from Western Connecticut State University.
I teach in a very traditional, well rounded style, catering to what and how the play wo
uld like to learn. We will work on everything from your basic sticking techniques, on up to complex rhythms and drum beats/patterns as they advance. I have a very laid back attitude, and really enjoy passing along my knowledge.

I hope to be able to help you on your musical journey!

I took mandolin lessons from Michael. He also taught me a lot of music theory and also how to improvise. I really enjoyed my lessons, because I was able to tell Michael what I was interested in learning, and that was what we focused on. He is himself a very talented musician and his teaching style is easy to understand. As an adult student, all of these aspects of teaching are very important.
