For acoustic guitar the first thing I do when I meet a student is to interview the student and find out why they want to learn how to play the guitar and what are some of their goals. Then I find out what style of music they would like to learn. I have the student come up with ten songs they would like to learn. I take this information and structure future guitar lessons around the essential elements of these songs. I design each lesson to teach the specific skills required to learn those songs. I create an organized binder guitar workbook and having a teaching degree I create all of the lessons to meet each students individual needs that include lessons on theory, technique, chords, rhythm, scales, arpeggios, songs, song form, and exercises etc. I use a color coded method to teach scales, chords and theory that I created that help students not only understand scales but also they are able to see visually where chords come from. I break down each song into easy digestible parts so ...

I only have high accolades for David. I've learned more from David in the mere 5 lessons then I learned in a years worth of lessons in the past. His method of teaching is perfect with the right amount of homework. He customizes the lesson for the type of music I ultimately want to play with a good balance of theory and practical lessons to get me there. Bravo!!!

Violin is a complex art, one that takes many years to develop, but can be one of the most rewarding experiences in your life. Despite its challenges, love for the violin and music should never take a back seat in a lesson, That is what I will focus on. Nevertheless, there are methods and techniques crucial to violin playing that I will also keep at the forefront. At the end of the day, students have their own unique voice that I will try to nurture while at the same time teach them the fundamental tools to achieve it. Whether just starting out or already playing for many years, I will strive to do what is best for the student. Mark has been working with my 7-year-old son for the last 9 months. My son had no prior experience, and Mark has done a great job teaching him everything from how to properly hold the instrument to rhythm. All of this has been done through a computer screen! Mark has an easy-going, positive personality, and my son looks forward to his lesson every week.

I teach beginner fiddle, drawing upon a repertoire and style reflective of my background in traditional Southeastern US/Southern Appalachian fiddling. I have the ability to teach either without or without written musical notation; however, in either case, we will work on ear-training and learning to play by ear.

About Michael

My journey with music began when I picked up the banjo as a middle schooler in West Virginia, inspired by the sounds of old-time mountain music. Fiddle has been my main focus for the past eight years, and has become a defining and shaping force in my life. I have been actively growing food for abou

Whether you are a beginner inspired to record your own music for the first time, or you've been recording for years but just can't seem to make further progress on your own...I've got you covered!

I can help you to grow in your understanding of the recording process. For instance...what are the different types of microphones and how should they be used? How should different instruments be recorded? How do DAW's (Digital Audio Workstations) work? What is the best way to use plugins for EQ, compression, reverb, and the like? How to mix a song? These kinds of issues and much more will be covered in our music recording lessons.

I have been both recording music and teaching for over 20 years. I care deeply about helping students reach their goals on the instrument, and I never cease to be amazed at the beauty and creativity involved in making music.

My background in a nutshell: I have a degree in music with a focus on percussion and composition from a major university, I've studied ...

As an intermediate drummer, Jesse's lessons were a perfect fit for me! I've been with him for about two years now. He's an experienced and skilled musician, but more importantly he's patient, motivating, and overall just a great teacher. I always feel like I'm getting my money's worth when going to his lessons. My skill level and enjoyment level of drumming have dramatically increased since beginning studying with him. I have no plans to quit taking lessons with Jesse anytime soon!

Jesse is a great drums instructor and musical mentor. He has a great set-up for teaching drums online, and a cozy home studio in Morningside Heights if you prefer in person instruction. His hourly rate is the best deal you'll find on Manhattan. I previously paid $150-200 per hour for college instruction, and Jesse's teaching is as good or better than any college instructors. He is clear, friendly, patient, and able to cater instruction to both the ability and aspirations of his students.
Peter
Jesse is a true professional, a technician, and an artist. And he yearns to see his students level up. I love his taste in music! I wish I could receive his tutelage more often.

Cosima is professional & cares about her students progress! I had gave up on singing, she was my last attempt. My vocal ability has grown so much with her instruction. My passion for singing has grown even more since she has taught me how to sing and use my vocals properly. I have been making steady progress since the beginning. "We arrived to Anna after my son took piano lessons elsewhere with little progress. My son is interested in music, but lacked the confidence to push through skills he found challenging. This has changed under Anna’s direction, and our son is making excellent progress. We find Anna to be extremely knowledgeable and competent, and her passion for piano shows. Anna is patient and gentle, but she will undoubtedly push your child to do their best. She will get to know your child to determine their interests and work with them to achieve their goals. Selecting the right repertoire is a big part of a successful audition -- but be careful, as there are so many overdone musical theatre audition songs out there. Here, Molly R. shares six songs to avoid... and what to try instead! With musical theatre auditions, often the toughest part isn't the audition itself, but instead making a decision on what to sing. 6 Awesome, Unexpected Cover Songs You Need to Hear

Singers, why limit yourself to one genre? Many artists have produced amazing cover songs to put their own spin on tunes, even those not in their particular genre. Here, St. Augustine, FL voice teacher Heather L. shares six covers worth a listen...   How amazingly awesome is it to hear a song re-sung by a singer in a way that's totally unlike the original version? The correct answer? Really amazingly awesome! Sometimes it can change the way we hear the lyrics completely, sometimes it'll m …

How Can I Make Practicing Violin Scales More Effective?

No matter how much students may groan when it comes to scales, they are very important for all beginners to know, particularly for the violin. Almost all of your knowledge about playing the violin starts with learning how to play scales, from reading sheet music to better understanding the fingerings. Of course, it is not nearly as exciting as playing one of the songs you love, but practicing scales will give you a strong foundation that will help you progress and improve. Violin scales are typ …
