Matthew is a generous, flexible teacher with a
healthy sense of humor and a broad perspective. He really listens to my concerns and addresses them respectfully. He is able to nudge me to work more diligently and to stay honest with myself. His manner is gentle and kind, but he is firm about the sound we are striving to produce.
I recommend Matthew wholeheartedly to teach at whatever level you're at. Each of our lessons is a collaboration; & he's probably good teaching children as well!

I specialize with beginner, intermediate and adult learners. I currently hold a degree in music education from LaGuardia Community College, pursuing my master's and bachelor's at Montclair State University this fall for music education and performance for the viola. I'm not afraid of travelling (in fact, I enjoy it!) and am easily reachable and approachable. I understand the world of music, let alone classical music, can be intimidating and challenging; in response to this, I develop an individual basis teaching method as everyone's needs are different and make the experience as fun and engaging as possible.

About Ashley

I am currently a junior at Ramapo College studying music education but I am no foreigner to teaching. I have been teaching for some years now with general ages ranging between 3 to 25, in the violin, viola and cello. I have also taught music theory from a beginner's standpoint to a college sophom

My lesson with Ashley was wonderful. She is very patient and great at explaining things to an adult beginner like me, and clearly very passionate about violin music and teaching. She was very easy to get in touch with after I set up the lessons. Thanks!

Ashley was very helpful to me. I was floundering. I am a brand new 'musician', still learning to read music. I would still be working with her, but I had to move suddenly. She was very encouraging and I hope to be able to continue lessons again with someone in my new location.

Shauna is great, and I am grateful to have found her. My goal is to find my authentic voice, and her methods and expertise are perfectly suited to this purpose. She helps me understand how sound is made and moves through my body, where it is blocked and how to use it to truly express myself. I have greater awareness of my body, and of how sound connects me to my deepest self. I love my lessons and leave refreshed and energized!

Literally, I couldn’t ask for a better Broadway singing and acting coach! Honestly, she's been so patient with me since I am pretty new to this industry. She has been nothing but supportive and I really can’t thank her enough for that. With Shauna by my side, I feel like I'm getting closer to my dream! Her classes are always fun as she has a great sense of humor plus all the knowledge and on top of that, experience in the industry insight. In the tough times of coronavirus, Shauna suggested Facetime lessons that are actually very convenient and beneficial. Think about it, staying home, not spending time on commute and keeping yourself and others healthy. Thank you, Shauna. Really grateful for meeting you! Best regards, Karina

"Damien had taught my children after Hurricane Katrina separated us by distance, with us relocating to Georgia and him relocating to Texas. We thought that was the end of the lessons, but thanks to the webcam, we were able to continue. What an enriching experience that has been! Not only did my kids get lessons online, but I was able to finally get lessons as an adult, using the excuse of helping out since this online thing was a kind of hybrid experience. Amazingly, the online experience worked out very well, not only because of the convenience, but also because of the very well structured lessons Damien pushes through week after week. He has an amazing ability of getting the most out of your abilities, never settling for what could be considered sub-par. Sometimes I am like, "You expect me to play THIS complex classic?" and to my surprise he enables me to stretch mentally and physically to successfully play these songs, time after time. The one thing I especially appreciate about his teaching technique is his ability to move his students along, quickly, through the songs. If he sees that you are lingering too long on a certain section, he will kick into supercharged mode, skipping through to nearly the end of the song, allowing you to taste the feeling of mastering the entire piece. It is hard to stay down about mastering a hard piece with him as a teacher, as he knows exactly what to get you to work on to lift up your spirits. I heavily endorse Damien as a teacher. He more than gets the job done!"

"Jeremy did a great job teaching me how to write an arrangement for a jazz band. I hadn't ever done anything like that and had no clue how to write rhythm parts. He gave me all the help I needed to know how to write chord symbols and notation for a rhythm section - lead sheets for the piano and guitar players, a bass part, and drum set parts. They all said the parts looked great. Thanks Jeremy!"

How to Play the Violin Like Lindsey Stirling

The inimitable Lindsey Stirling has shaken the world’s concept of classical music. From sold-out shows around the globe to her top-ranked YouTube video for "Crystallize," she’s come a long way since being eliminated in the quarter-finals of “America’s Got Talent” in 2010. While Lindsey has experienced a meteoric rise in the music world, her success is rooted in the same principles that have guided countless artists to virtuoso status: training with a classical instructor merged with co …
