About Timothy
I am a songwriter, composer, and performer. I am a formally trained musician with considerable real world performing experience. Teaching music is something I enjoy immensely and something I am extremely passionate about.

During my time as a college student studying music, I began teaching guitar lessons. I found the work to be extremely rewarding. I was happy to be spreading a bit of love for music around, and I believe I made some lasting impressions. I continued to teach music lessons after I graduated, expanding to teach piano as well.

The more I taught, the more I found sincere joy in teaching. As I was was getting to know each of my students better, I realized that I was doing more than just teaching music lessons. I was acting as an example, a friend, and a counselor of sorts. I realized that each lesson was an op
portunity to influence each of my students in a positive way, however small or large. To be granted that opportunity was truly thrilling.

I teach guitar from beginner to advanced levels of performance, in many styles. I teach piano and drums up to an intermediate level. I specialize in Jazz, Folk, Blues, Rock, Funk, and pretty much any contemporary style a student might be interested in learning. Although not my specialty, I am capable of teaching classical styles as well.

I am very excited to teach anyone interested in learning about the wonders of music, and I work with all ages.

WILLING TO TRAVEL EXTRA TO CERTAIN SUBURBS OF NEW YORK. Please note: Although my travel radius is set to (X miles-I would suggest 1 mile) I am still willing to travel further to certain parts of New York. Please use the “Ask Timothy a Question” button on my profile to get in contact with me and discuss your location and additional pricing for traveling out to you.

In my lessons, students can expect to have fun while learning. I am friendly, warm, personable, caring, patient, and fun. I strive to find the perfect balance between learning the important fundamentals of music, and just plain enjoying music. Music takes hard work, but music is supposed to be fun!

I am a laid back person, and I do not expect any strict formalities when interacting with students. I feel that the more comfortable a student is, the more easily that student can learn and have fun doing so. However, I do expect my students to thoroughly practice, to focus, and to strive to improve.

I tailor each lesson to a student's particular needs. Everyone learns and interprets music in different ways, so I strive to serve each of my students uniquely. From basic fundamentals to advanced techniques, I cover everything. I also give each student an opportunity to choose some music that they will enjoy learning.

My curriculum changes depending on the student's ability level, age, and instrument of choice. I typically use a method book for reinforcement of musical fundamentals, and a supplementary "project" piece of music that the student enjoys playing and learning. I do this so that my students can see direct connections between music fundamentals and playing music that they enjoy. My own personal knowledge and experience as a musician is always added to each lesson as well.

*** Travel Equipment ***
For guitar lessons, I provide my guitar and any equipment that the student may not have initially, like for example, their own guitar, or music stand. Piano students will need their own keyboard for the very first lesson. Drum students should have their own drum set or practice pad for the first lesson. I can assist in finding affordable options for instruments. The student should eventually provide their own instrument and equipment, such as their own guitar, music stand, and copy of the selected method book; all of which are things that they will need in order to pursue practicing on their own time.

*** Specialties ***
I am capable of teaching using many methods, styles, and genres, depending on the student and their particular needs. However, I specialize in jazz, folk, and rock styles, as well as improvisation.

Patricia Brady-Danzig is a very talented pianist and teacher. I have seen her perform many times. She is excellent at both classical and popular music. Her teaching skills are well known both to private students and in the public schools. She has a wonderful knowledge of many composers and she
Imparts that knowledge to her students as she teaches them to play the piano.
She makes lessons a very enjoyable experience.

Working with Patricia has been fun, fulfilling and challenging in the best way possible! She is a patient and talented teacher who is flexible and encouraging. I'm an older beginner, and she's been creative in helping me learn how to play the piano, including writing out materials and tailoring my lesson to the skills I want to obtain. I recommend her without reservation!

When I first took lessons in high school (about 10 years ago) I was always the one struggling the hardest to learn how to play in my group of peers, I was often picked on about it and became the laughingstock pretty much. Even the teacher told me that guitar is not for everyone and suggested I pursue a different instrument to pick up. I gave up trying to learn how to play the guitar or any other instrument. My interest in playing the guitar sparked again when I took a class in music theory in one of my elective classes for college. I became so intrigued with the idea of being able to create my own music. So I scoured the internet and asked friends and family if they knew of any guitar teachers that offer lessons at a low rate. I eventually came across Kieran and he completely transformed my ability to play the guitar at an even higher standard than I thought possible. He really knows his stuff and I will recommend him to anyone I know in a heartbeat. I eventually got so good that I've even written music for myself to play and always get compliments on my abilities. I really owe it all to Kieran, he was the one that set me in the right path and opened many doors for me. I normally don't write reviews on anything but i felt it was completely necessary in this scenario. If you're looking for someone who can adapt to your unique personality, someone who is a dedicated teacher, and a teacher that can inspire you the best you can be, then Kieran is your guy!

Hello! I am currently in my first year of my Masters at NYU where I am studying flute performance, where I am studying under Soo-Kyung Park. I am also an Adjunct Instructor at NYU, where I teach undergraduate NYU students private flute lessons. I recently graduated from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music this past May, where I received a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance with a minor in art history. While at IU, I studied under Kathryn Lukas and participated in various ensembles and concerts, focusing mainly on chamber music.

I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia, where I studied under Christina Smith, the principal flutist of the Atlanta Symphony, and I also participated in a numerous amount of masterclasses and performances with many different flutists. I have been playing the flute for 16 years, and I have been playi
ng the piano for 18 years. I also play the piccolo, alto flute, bass flute, clarinet, and the guitar.

I have been teaching the flute for over 8 years. I have taught students of all ages and levels. I also have worked with high school students in assisting with flute sectionals through the band program.

I am experienced with a large variety of styles, and I am open to exploring different types of music.

My goal is to give students the ability and resources to grow to become an overall musician. I work hard to find out how different students learn, and I adjust my teaching style to fit different learning needs. I aim to help students find a passion in playing music, so I try an find out what interests a student and work to incorporate that into flute playing. I am very encouraging and enthusiastic in my teaching.

I am a bass player first, not a guitarist who also teaches bass. Students will learn technique, theory and groove from a teacher who understands that as bass players, we are in a unique position. Since bass is both a harmony and rhythm instrument we have the opportunity to develop into leaders in a way other instrumentalists don't. I will encourage students interested in exploring this aspect of their instrument

I have a degree in jazz performance from The Ohio State University and have played in numerous rock, jazz and off-broadway bands over the last 20 years. Now playing is something I do primarily for fun and my #1 goal is always that my students have as much fun playing as I do

David is fantastic. He is very smart and his formal education in music shines through in his teachings. He teaches the proper foundational techniques which may be harder to adopt initially but without it, advancement to high level playing is much more difficult and time consuming. David's direct teaching style creates very efficient sessions and maximum progression. David has the right balance of formal music education to ensure proper technique, and his personal band side project to ensure that you are enjoying the process since that's what's most important.

About Saad
Saad is a composer of orchestral, chamber, vocal, and electroacoustic music who achieves a “remarkable fusion of idioms” (New York Times), most notably in his work exploring the disparate qualities inherent in Western art music and Middle Eastern musical tradition. His music delves into that relationship by transferring the performance techniques of traditional Arab instruments to Western symphonic instruments, while extending their capabilities through the advancement of technology.

The 2017–18 season featured the premiere of Saad's first major string quartet, commissioned by the Lydian String Quartet, the premiere of Risala, co-commissioned by the Columbus and Princeton Symphony Orchestras, the premiere of Hawa, written for the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, performances of Takht by the Minnesota Orchestra and the Hangzhou Philharm
onic Orchestra, and a performance of Kaman Fantasy by Symphony in C, among others.

Recent distinctions include the Charles Ives Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Barlow Endowment General Commission, the S&R Foundation Washington Award Grand Prize, the Jerome Fund for New Music grant from the American Composers Forum, the Palmer Dixon Award from the Juilliard School, the Aaron Copland Residency Award, and multiple awards from ASCAP, BMI, and the Vancouver Chamber Choir. His orchestral works have been performed by the American Composers Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Symphony in C, and the symphony orchestras of Albany, Columbus, Milwaukee, New Jersey, Princeton, and Sioux City. His music has been broadcast on stations across the Unites States, including WWFM, MPR, WPRB, and KWIT/KOJI, among others.

Born in Georgia and raised in California, Saad holds degrees in composition from the Juilliard School and the University of Southern California, where his principal teachers included John Corigliano, Mari Kimura, Bruce Broughton, Frank Ticheli, Stephen Hartke, and Donald Crockett. His music is published exclusively by Dib Press.

I started with Saad at a music camp upstate I was attending and of which he was composition faculty. Having taken plenty of music theory in the past but no formal composition, I didn’t know what to expect. First off, Saad’s manner couldn’t have been more calming or inviting from the very beginning, and that really built a great rapport between us and allowed me to do my best work. Secondly, based on my accounts of my past training, it took little time for Saad to identify what were my strengths and what we needed to study in order to ensure my best compositional outputs. We studied invertible counterpoint, a complex subject fundamental to nearly all forms of advanced classical counterpoint. Saad made the subject really approachable through intricate but understandable explanations of different concepts and provided really illustrative examples of each concept. Even a year after those several weeks of study, in which I have hardly written nearly the number of contrapuntal exercises as I did in the weeks during and after Saad’s tutelage, I still find canon and fugue writing to be doable and even fun, testament to how I was able to hold on to Saad’s teachings even long after working with him. I couldn’t recommend Saad’s abilities and qualities higher to anyone wishing to take composition lessons, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that he is an accomplished, experienced, fascinating, and highly-sought-after composer in his own right. Even after working with dozens of different teachers in different musical disciplines, I have found my studies with Saad to be among the absolute most rewarding.

About Christopher
Christopher Buchenholz is an American composer whose orchestral, chamber, vocal, and piano works have been most favorably received in the United States and abroad. His compositions are best known for their extraordinary blend of traditional musical sound worlds, relentless counterpoint, intricate rhythmic aggregations, and innovative harmonic motion. His music has been described as "meta-tonal," incorporating tonal structures and tonally influenced relationships within fundamentally twelve-tone designs. Mr. Buchenholz' music reflects an intense and ongoing investigation of formal musical structures, created in a twelve-tone pitch-space, which itself is modeled after a more conventional, tonal pitch-space. This gives his music a familiar, yet strikingly new sound.Dr. Buchenholz studied at the High School of Music and Art, and studied compo
sition at Carnegie-Mellon University with Lukas Foss and Leonardo Balada, and with Milton Babbitt at the Juilliard School, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in 2001, and a Master of Music degree in 2003. Thereafter, he studied Clarinet with Allen Blustine, and Composition with Joseph Dubiel, Jonathan Kramer and Fred Lerdahl at Columbia University, where he was awarded a Doctorate with distinction in 2006.Mr. Buchenholz' Commissions include Speculum Musicae, The Frelinghuysen Foundation, The Arditti Quartet, The Carnegie-Mellon Baroque Chamber Ensemble, The Carnegie-Mellon Philharmonic, Cuarteto Latinamericano, All Saints Church in Pasadena CA, The Disney Family Foundation and The National Arts Club.Christopher Buchenholz has received awards and honors from The Schubert Foundation, The George Gershwin Memorial Scholarship, The Gretchaninoff Memorial Prize in Composition, The American Academy Of Arts And Letters, The Dr. Boris and Eda Rapaport Prize, and The Henry Mancini Fellowship in Composition.Dr. Buchenholz, currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Yeshiva University, has also taught at the Juilliard School, The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, the Association to Benefit Children, New York University, and Columbia University. A native New Yorker, he began his musical career at the age of seven on CBS Sunday Morning. He also performed as a soloist with the Metropolitan Opera from age eight to fourteen. He has performed at The Public Theatre, and The Kennedy Center, and has toured with the Philadelphia Oratorio Society.
