I am an internationally recognized saxophonist, composer, keyboardist, songwriter, lyricist, vocalist, bandleader, arranger, and producer with a passion for music education.

I have been teaching professionally for 10 years at levels from beginner to Graduate student/working professional (I am a substitute teacher for saxophone legend, prof. Antonio Hart, at Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, NY). All levels and ages are welcome.

I have a specific teaching curriculum with an emphasis on the control of the saxophone fingering and breathing/sound producing techniques, which ensure visible improvements within weeks of lessons! I am definitely also open to the students' own wishes regarding their repertoire and musical interests.

The unique quality I bring to my student's teaching experience is that I am also a working musician - I have been performing, recording, touring, producing, and band-leading internationally for 15 years now in a wide variety of musical ...

Jan was recomended by my former flute teache, and I started taking clarinet lessons from him as a complete beginner. He is an excellent teacher, very patient, and he understands the psychology and needs of the student. In few weeks, I was able to produce nice sounds, and play simple pieces myself. Jan is also very knowledgeable about music theory. You can see that he is a great artist and musician who is very passionate about it- something that inspires and motivates the student as well. I would highly recommend him.

I have had a very positive experience with Adam as my guitar instructor. He is very knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. I could see myself making progress and look forward to my next lesson!

I've been taking lessons from Adam for about 3 years now - He is an amazing teacher! I took lessons before when I was younger but I quickly lost interest. I decided to get back into it later in life (I'm 35 now), but I still struggled to find the right teacher. One was too serious and the other was too relaxed and I felt like I wasn't actually making any progress. With Adam I got the best of both worlds! I was getting better at the guitar, and at the same time I was enjoying myself throughout the whole process. I'm still taking lessons with Adam and I would recommend that you do the same!
Paul
I took jazz guitar for two years from Adam. He’s a great teacher and excellent musician. As a former “cowboy chords” guitarist, I jumped from 5 to about 15 chords in a few weeks. Adam is patient and lots of fun. I still catch some of his gigs when I’m back in NYC.

My primary goal with all of my students is to help them make great music that is true to themselves. What this means for my teaching is a focus on training both the ears and technique. I always prefer a more personalized approach to teaching, working with students to find repertoire that speaks to them and improves their musicality and technique.

About Isaac

As I’ve developed my teaching style over the last ten years, I’ve found myself zeroing in on a few key qualities I want to cultivate in my students and in my self. These include great ears, a high proficiency on the instrument, and a strong and interactive sense of musicality. At the center of my p

Isaac knows his stuff. He has been great in teaching music theory and piano. Easy to get in contact with and flexible in scheduling.
Greg A.
Isaac is an excellent teacher and is highly recommended. His method is not centered on drills, music reading or repetition, but rather on getting an understanding of how the notes, chords work together. In so doing, the student gets a great understanding of theory and it opens the door to improvisation. In addition he's very patient with folks such as myself who don't come to class with a deep understanding of music theory.

I have just begun lessons with Isaac. He is an excellent teacher; attuned to my needs, very good at explaining things, patient, very good at getting me to understand what I need to know. I look forward to learning upright bass with him!

I have experience in teaching every level of student from beginning to advanced. I am a big believer in teaching the fundamentals. I spend much time working on tone and technique with my students as this leads to much success when it comes to specializing in both classical and jazz playing. I give students much freedom as to what they want to work on as this allows students to be excited about taking lessons. After all, music is supposed to be fun!

Corey was a great instructor for my 4th grader. We wanted him to keep up with his clarinet lessons over Summer break. My son gets very easily frustrated when he struggles and Corey handled it all very well, always giving a new suggestion on what he could do to improve. In just 5 short lessons, Corey helped my son with his embouchure, finger placement, tounging and my son was finally able to play his B and C notes. That had really been holding him back from playing lots of music. Highly recommended!

Mr. Ames has been one of my favorite teachers during my time at LA. He is always willing to listen and help his students if they go to him. He is passionate about teaching, his main goal is to help his students succeed in whatever way he can. He always tries to make a fun and worthwhile experience everyone should appreciate the great teacher that he is.

Mr. Ames is an amazing teacher! He helped me land a spot in the all district band my freshman year in high school and constantly pushed me to strive and be my best. I highly recommend him for anyone that is looking to have fun and be a better clarinet player.

"We Absolutely LOVE Terri! and more importantly, my daughter really enjoys her time with Terri. We had to take a brief break at the end of the school year, as my daughter was feeling overwhelmed with school responsibilities, but Terri was incredibly understanding. Our daughter is very critical of herself, and tends to only see the mistakes she makes, not the progress. Terri is always reminding her of the positive, and is very encouraging. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!"

Our 8 Best Tips for Effective Drum Practice

What’s more important: the amount of drum practice you do, or the quality of the  practice? Although you might be tempted to lock yourself in your room for a week to goof around on the drums, studies have shown that the amount of practice isn’t always an indicator of outstanding drumming performance. Rather, drummers who employ long practice sessions of average quality will never perform at high level. And high-quality practice over short periods of time won’t help drummers achieve the re …
