Hi! I'm Michael Shingo C. and I am a violinist, pianist, and composer.
In my teaching, I emphasize efficient, goal-oriented practice, and provide a strong technical foundation while always keeping musicality and expression in mind. I encourage my students to develop problem-solving skills that will ultimately allow them to create their own interpretations about a piece of music. I believe that each student has a different learning style and, with this knowledge, I design a program of study specifically for them.
Learning music is all about tackling technical or musical problems in many different ways until we find an approach that works for you. As multi-instrumentalist who also writes music, I can offer many different perspectives on a single issue and draw from a wide range of knowledge that serves me in my daily creative pursuits. ~

For beginning students, you can expect to be playing and learning to read music within your first month of taking lessons. Playing the violin wasn't originally very fun for me. I didn't enjoy practicing or learning music until my parents bought some sheet music for popular songs, and I would play along with them. This really made playing the violin enjoyable, and this new love for playing made me stick with it. I want my students to have fun while also learning valuable techniques that will be beneficial to their success with the instrument. This is executed through the combination of classical repertoire, scales and etudes, and pieces/songs chosen by the student.
About Adam
When I was first starting to play the violin, I didn't really enjoy it. I was often told I wasn't good enough and I would never amount to anything with it. It really took the fun out of playing. I ended up taking lessons from a fantastic teacher, who saw my potential, and really gave me a love of m

Kelvin is a great teacher. He has a hands-on teaching style integrated with little bits of music theory. Also, he gives you constructive criticism on your originals that doesn't insult your artistic style, but rather works with it. When I first found Kelvin, I told him I wanted to learn an array of instruments so I can understand the workings of a orchestra before I assemble one of my own, and he was in full support of it! Over the course of several lessons, we've listened to several CDs and analyzed the arrangements listening for the entrance of different instruments that add complexity and depth to the music. Kelvin is the ideal teacher for learning the general concepts behind building a song, and learning specifics within songwriting. Assuming you dedicate enough time to your music between lessons, Taking lessons with Kelvin has been the best investment yet on my musical journey."
