I focus on the fundamentals (tone, technique and timing) using my own personalized approach to methods such as long tones, scales/ arpeggios and technical studies. I also allow students to be creative and express themselves through the art of music.

The sound of the flute is full of potential for a wide array of colors and textures and can be played in a variety of styles: classical, jazz, funk, Afrobeat, rock, and more. I teach my students through exercises catered to their musical passions. In addition to the basic technical elements of playing, I focus on listening across the musical spectrum. I encourage the use of long tones and air support to improve tone, flexibility, and all repertoire.
About Emily
Woodwind instrumentalist Emily performs regularly in a range of styles including classical, jazz, rock, funk, Afrobeat, Third Stream, and musical theater. Emily holds her M.M. in Multiple Woodwind Performance from The Boston Conservatory with concentrations in saxophone, clarinet, and flute perform

In lessons, I will teach students how to develop an embouchure and make sound, have proper technique, discuss equipment care, how to read music and develop note recognition, and ultimately, play music. All of this while, challenging the student to expand their creative and intellectual capacities.
The goal is to get my students playing with proper technique, so that this will carry on throughout their career and playing of the instrument. After getting some sounds out of the instrument and having decent technique, students will be assigned 1-2 songs to work on each lesson. It is the learning of music on one's own, that I believe, truly challenges the student to continue to apply information given in lessons. My ultimate goal, is to equip my students with a sustainable and enjoyable approach to practicing and performing music that leaves them wanting to play more, and doesn't burn them out.

About Kiah
I've been playing music for more than a decade and the thing that has really stuck out to me that I would say is the most important is this: Never stop practicing. Some people are naturally gifted and pick up skills very easily. Some people aren't quite so lucky. The thing though is that being natu

Roberta is great! She is patient, attentive, timely, efficient, and (most importantly) a fantastic teacher. She makes you look at things differently.I highly recommend Roberta."

My 13 year old daughter has been taking flute lessons with Roberta for the past two and a half years. She has made remarkable progress during this time. Roberta is a wonderful flutist and an extraordinary, dedicated teacher. She inspires and motivates her students, and knows how to communicate with them on the appropriate level. She has a warm personality and a good sense of humor. My daughter always looks forward to her lessons with Roberta.
