Hi there! Learning a language doesn't have to be hard and frustrating, I promise it can be easy, fun, and extremely rewarding. I've been a Spanish tutor for about 5 years, I'm Mexican-American, I grew up with the Spanish language at home, and I took a Spanish minor in college. My lessons aren't focused on grammar rules and lists of vocabulary -- I have a more unconventional approach, and I promise that I'll help the language make sense for you! My lessons are very comfortable and laid-back, based mainly around conversation, and I'm happy to tailor them to any specific areas that you want to work on. I've worked with straight-up beginners, intermediate, and even very advanced students. All ages/levels are welcome, I'd love to help you improve your Spanish!

I have a Master's Degree of Education, K-12 certification, and 8 years of experience teaching Spanish in schools and tutoring adults and children. The key to learning to communicate in a new language is to hear and use the language in context. I teach vocabulary using stories that create with my students, and we recycle that vocabulary in conversations, role plays and new stories we create together. By acquiring language naturally in this way, students are best able to learn and retain vocabulary and grammatical structures.
I tailor my lessons to my students' goals and interests. However, I have a general system and self-created curriculum that I successfully apply to most students. When I work with beginners, we focus on the 16 highest frequency verbs and most useful prepositions and expressions in the language, so that my students are able to express themselves on a variety of topics in just a few lessons. I incorporate authentic resources (resources from the Spanish-speaking ...

I am having so much fun learning Spanish with Ellen! She is very encouraging and patient. I didn't know any Spanish before, just some French. I am surprised by how much we can actually talk about. I like that she gives me scripts of our conversations to read for homework along with recordings of herself reading them. I listen to these often between lessons and find that it is really helpful.

"She is ADORABLE! AND IS HILARIOUS! My daughter loves her! She has grown so much by gaining confidence through her classes. I feel comfortable leaving her with Rosita cause I know she'll be safe and get a chance to be herself. When I do stay for her class I cannot believe how intelligent my daughter is and how excited she is to participate. She is great with kids that are shy and have problems socializing and making friends."
