The philosophy of my teaching is to help students to build strong technical foundations while encouraging them to gain deep satisfaction from the music that they play or study. I also enjoy sharing with students the musical history and context around the music that they perform, as it helps them become part of a community and tradition bigger than themselves. I always adapt the teaching methods depending on students and understand what they need.

About Jing

Hi there! I'm a composer and pianist who is excited to share my musical knowledge (and/or my native Chinese language) with students. Whenever working with students, I work with them to find their passions and help them build up the skills and technique they will need to accomplish their dreams. My

Quirky, artsy, non-conformist music teacher for all ages!

I have been playing for 25 years and teaching for the past 6 years. I have an out-of the-box, unique teaching style that combines traditional, Suzuki, and proprietary (my own) teaching methods, which I use in varying combinations to suit each individual student's needs.
I'm experienced teaching a wide variety of musical styles (anything except rap and country).
I insist on classical foundations but am always open to new music, often using students' selections to teach them musical skills.
I have experience teaching students with minor learning disabilities, as well as ADD/ADHD and Asperger's, both of which I have myself.
This makes me a better, more flexible teacher, and I am open to working with you and/or your child, even as far as incorporating music lessons into homeschool curriculum.
I do take teaching music seriously, and I do require parental involvement on a regular basis, as I consider this crucial to learning

About Susan Skye

I started singing when I heard the musical "Cats" at age 8. I decided I wanted to sing like those people, and that's exactly what I did: I sang my little heart out until I had a great voice. At age 11, I was asked to play the bassoon in the school band, which also required piano lessons. This

I've been playing piano ever since I was in elementary school, and it's proven a valuable asset as I've continued my career as a musician. No musician can afford not to know piano, let alone how to read and play sheet music, and anyone who wants to pursue music, or just the arts in general always benefits from it.

"Laurel is an amazing Piano teacher. She was able to connect with my 6 year old daughter right away. She has a calm, kind energy and possesses positive leadership skills. My daughter is flourishing under her teaching much more than she was with her previous piano teacher of almost 2 years. My daughter is a deep thinker and enjoys that Laurel explained and even showed her (by opening the piano) how the keys all connect and work together to make the sound. Laurel is very professional and punctual as well. I highly recommend her!"
