My first lesson with Zach was great! 5 stars. He asked the right questions as to what aI am looking to do. And we quickly came up with a lesson plan that with the right amount of work in my part will get me headed in the right direction. Zach does a great job of making his students feel comfortable and good about their abilities.
James A.
Great experience with Zach. I'm still learning how to sing properly, though.

Mark is awesome. He has a uniquely designed and patented method to reach reading music quickly. My daughter learned to read all the violin notes with rapidity in two months. Today he had her play a new piece she never saw before by reading the music. The smile on her face when she realized what she had accomplished was priceless.

Come and play the violin! There is so much music out there, and if you can even sort of sing a melody, there is a way to get it into your fingers. If you are already playing and want to improve, or expand what you have, you can go for it!

About Donna

Donna loves teaching and sharing her love for music. She has taught violin/fiddle to students as young as 3, and as old as 92, and had fun with all her students. She loves seeing the enthusiasm grow in absolute beginners, adults as well as children, and encouraging them to find their own joy in mu

She knows how to identify what style of learning is appropriate. She knows how to listen, and how to determine what the goals are. She doesn't impose an agenda, but is committed to helping the learner acquire technical skills while making lessons fun and productive. Top marks!

I have been blessed with knowing Donna and taking lessons from her for 10 years. She is extremely skilled, patient, and a joy to work with. She has taught me so much and I always look forward to my lessons.
Linda
Donna came highly recommended by an employee at a nearby music store. She has been great at engaging my teenage daughter in her violin lessons - both with continuing the Suzuki program, and diversifying into fiddle music. Donna is patient and fun and seeks to lead through inspiration, which works really well for my daughter, who is talented but not particularly disciplined about practice. My daughter always looked forward to lessons with Donna - even on Saturday mornings! When we moved to online lessons because of the Covid stay-at-home order, Donna kept the lessons interesting and they have had a nice rapport. Donna has a way of fitting a lot of instruction into a lesson without it feeling boring or labored. She's really helped my daughter appreciate music, not just play the violin.

I love teaching strings. Violin is my main instrument. I focus heavily on bow technique. I have gotten students into youth orchestras and passed college auditions. I like to use the Essential Elements and Suzuki books.
I also offer online group lessons at a highly discounted price. I suggest that all my students join. This is a great option for kids while class is out.

I've always wanted to take music lessons but instead always made sure my kiddos learned what I never got to. During quarantine, I decided to go for it and learn myself. I found Michelle here on TakeLessons. She was offering a great deal for new students! So on a whim, I purchased 12 lessons, rented a cello, got the books Michelle recommended, and started lessons two weeks later. I have learned a lot from Michelle! She is on time for lessons and pays attention to the details: how I'm holding my bow, how I'm sitting, and how holding the cello can be different for women ;).

Take some initiative with your learning by communicating with Michelle what you are looking for, what your expectations are, what you want to learn, songs you would like to attempt and your lesson will meet your expectations! She aims to please, she is friendly and has stories to entertain and fill the voids if you want.

The lessons have been well worth my time and $$. I've learned a lot!!

My daughter started taking lessons a few months ago as a beginner with Michelle and it has been wonderful. My daughter is a bit of an introvert and i was afraid that she would lose interest if she wasn't playing like a professional after a few weeks. Michelle has a high level of energy and is very patient. My daughter taught herself a bit of a popular song she liked and Michelle said she would help her learn more of it. My daughter remarked "that was really nice of her"

"I am an adult learner, I started with a different instructor but I was frustrated with a number of things. I contacted Tania with my frustrations and then started lessons. She has been a joy to work with. Her first question to me was what my goals were. I really appreciated this, because I am an adult who has carved out 30-60 minutes each day to practice. So I definitely have goals. The overall goal of improving is nicely balanced with pieces and styles that I find interesting and enjoyable. My previous teacher was not very attentive to body mechanics and so I was hitting a wall both in terms of ability and comfort. I mentioned to him my back was hurting and he thought I was making conversation rather than asking for help. I didn't even need to tell Tania my back was hurting after practicing, because she starting suggesting tweaks to my mechanics after watching me play for just a few minutes. Playing immediately became more comfortable and enjoyable. Tania understands that playing violin is parts listening, mechanics, theory and playing. When I'm having trouble with one we will discuss parts of the others and a first it didn't seem related then suddenly I see a convection between the different parts and the connection makes my playing better. I would absolutely recommend Tania. She has a deep understanding of the topic and makes learning violin funner and easier. Scheduling has always been easy."

"Omer is giving Violin lessons to my youngest son Eric for the last 6 months. Eric started playing the guitar a few years ago up until a movie he recently saw on a Japanese brilliant violinist , a week later he told us on his will to tryout the violin. Fortunately We heard Omer playing in a jazz club, and contacted him a few days after, Omer is a very talented musician but has unique capability and patient for his students. Omer is teaching with a very relaxed, positive attitude, his passion for music with small anecdotes and humour was what made Eric to get in love with the instrument and he is Impatiently waiting for his next lesson. we highly recommend Omer as a teacher and musician."

I've wanted to play all of my life and I look forward to learning more with Lisa."

A Beginner's Guide to Violin Bows: 4 Details to Consider

Selecting a violin bow, much like choosing a guitar, can be a very subjective process.  To the uninitiated, it's "just a violin bow."  They're all the same, right?  Wrong.  To the seasoned violinist, the perfect bow will depend on the player's technique, playing style and overall personal preference.  There are several factors that can affect the sound of the bow on the strings, including strength, shape, and age of the bow. Most beginner violins come with bows that are perfectly fine, b …
