Teaching artist Deron Cohen will guide you step-by-step through how to re-create an image in watercolor paint. Learn techniques and tricks!
I am a San Diego native and have shown my paintings extensively throughout San Diego. It wasn't until several years after I graduated from UCLA in 1994 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts, that I really tried to show my work in galleries. Most recently, my work has been in shows at Project X Gallery, The Museum of the Living Artist, The San Diego Art Department, Sanctuary Gallery, Limbo Fine Arts, and Sushi Gallery. I have just started to show in other cities, most recently at the Rialto Theater in Corpus Christi, Texas and The Nico Gallery in Seattle, Washington.
Along with my painting career, I have created children’s book and magazine illustrations, done graphic design work, and taught others how to express themselves creatively through art. I have been creating curricula for children’s art programs and teaching them. I also have been te
aching adults how to paint at the San Diego Art Department for the past 10 years and, in the past two years, with Painting &Vino.
Through my decade of teaching painting, I have honed a teaching style that encourages students to balance creativity and imagination with technique and skill. I strive to help students discover a process in which they are able to express themselves creatively while also teaching paint application techniques, color theory and the Elements and Principles of design. I am often in front of 50+ people at a time presenting my painting techniques within a limited amount of time.
I look forward to coaching you whether you're someone who hasn't painted since you were a kid or you're a seasoned painter who just needs a little help, encouragement or direction.
*** Lesson Details *** Subjects may include, but are not limited to: -Color theory -The Elements & Principles of Design and how to use them -The Creative Process -Creating a Composition When You Don't Know What to Paint -Creating a Painting Using a Photo as a Reference -Glazing -Oil vs. Acrylic Paints -Advice for Artists with Works-In-Process
I am happy to teach a student anything s/he wants to explore within the realm of painting.
Deron is an absolute joy to work with. My dude ran off immediately after the lesson to draw some more. Now that's a positive review. :)

It was great! Deron had me pick out a subject and send him the image ahead of time. He had it printed out and ready to go when I got there, along with the paint colors, brushes and everything. Very impressed with his organization. He went at just the right speed for me and we actually made good progress. I'm looking forward to the next lesson!
Lessons would be individualized to focus on areas that need the most guidance.
I have been teaching since 2006 on a variety of topics. I graduated with an BA from the University of Wisconsin. My degree is in History with and emphasis on East Asian history.
I've taught all age groups from age 2 up to retirees. My teaching experience includes one-on-one and group classes in a variety of settings. I've taught corporate classes, private lessons, small groups, and traditional classroom lessons.
We have a student-centric philosophy of learning. Lessons are generally relaxed and designed to work towards accomplishing student determined goals. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. Special focus on topics like music theory, self-accompaniment, composition, song writing, and home recording are available as well.
What are your personal goals? We'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.
Lessons with small children are more focused on just having fun while developing a good musical foundation, but we prefer for them to have as much personal ownership of their lesson as possible.
Melissa is patient, explains the concepts very well, she is hands on and makes the lessons very entertaining and dynamic. The way she selects the material for her students she finds the right balance between effective learning, fun and interesting. We are very fortunate to have her as a piano teacher.

She was so kind and helpful toward my kids for the fist day.

My daughter struggled to stay focused for the whole one hour. It would be better to have video conference option so she can see the teacher.
I've been doing water color painting for years and would love to help you. For the first three lessons, I can bring the supplies, but after that most people want to have their own supplies so I've recommend buying your own.
I've been sewing since I was 13. I've sewn things over the years such as dresses, pajamas. I do a lot of tailoring things too. I just love to sew, and I love teaching people to sew too!
The way that I teach is to help the student develop their own style. I have students work on their own individual projects that they pick out while asking me questions that they might have while they are doing their project.
However, if they would like there is an option for me to develop lessons for the student on certain sewing techniques that the student could learn. Although, be aware that learning how to sew takes time and that all the techniques of sewing cannot be done all at once.
Then, there is the third option that the lesson could be a mix of the student doing what they want (choosing their own project) and learning some pre-designed
My first goal is to give my students all of the tools they need to feel confident from the very first lesson. I would like for all of my students within the first lesson to finish either of two basic projects (pajama pants or a draw string bag).
My lessons are not like videos you may find online. Meaning projects will take longer than you think they will. I will work with you to properly construct a quality finished project without too many frustrations and in a timely manner. I recommend buying lessons in 90 minute packages, since sewing always takes longer than expected.

Whether you are wanting to learn how to paint using acrylic paints because it is something you have always wanted to learn or you are looking to learn new techniques, I am here to guide you! Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. Not only will you be painting in no time, but you will be building a strong foundation of color theory, drawing techniques, hand sight coordination techniques, and more. I have been painting for over fifthteen years in a variety of scales including large murals to small canvases. I am as eager to share basic to advance techniques as you are to learn. Self expression and painting techniques are a tool nobody can take from you once you have learned and embraced the art of painting. I have a degree in Art Practice from UC Berkeley and have taught 2nd grade students and adults as well. Let's get painting!
I am a professional working artist and I am also a site coordinator for an Expanded Learning program here in Riverside. I obtained a degree in Art Practice from UC Berkeley where I specialized in multimedia installations that included large scale paintings, sculptures, and original music/audio. Due to the versatility in my own work from large to very small scale paintings I have acquired techniques and skills for every scale in between. I am a strong believer in self expression and visual literacy which gets stronger with the formulation of concepts one builds through inspiration for each painting. I enjoy teaching and learning what my students' interests are and what motivates them. I can help you learn specific skills for abstract paintings to detailed portraits. Through research I have also learned that individua
ls benefit greatly from creative freedom thus performing better in other academic subjects, learning healthy ways of expression, and mentally feel fulfilled through the therapeutic effects of painting. If you are looking to work with someone who loves what they do, who is patient, motivational, and can teach you basic to advanced skills in painting, drawing, music, and Spanish send me a message and we can begin your learning journey!
The first lesson went very well with my daughter. Belinda was methodical in her teaching and approached the lesson with my daughter’s interest in mind. During the lesson, Belinda was able to actively engage my daughter the whole time, and more importantly, her teaching revived my daughter’s interest in drawing. She has already devised future plans to have my daughter practice sketching noses, eyes, and ears so that my daughter may draw the human face later with more realistic details.
Calligraphy of objects with your very own set of awesome brushes with professional tips, a carefully chosen paper, and paint you'll really appreciate. Just add water and let me guide you through techniques, composition, elements, principles. I'd also like to introduce the mindset of mindfulness to the practice of something I've done for 30 plus years....to sway you from disastrous mud-puddles and garish kitsch....watercolor calligraphy? That too for your final masterpiece.
Join me for the creative unleashing of highly effective processes of learning success. Your instruction will include: A. creative problem solving (unleashing the genius within) B. formation; a foundation is planned (architect) C. building; drafts are written (carpenter) D. finishing; the writing is polished (finishing editor/proofreader) I've used these guiding principles countless times in my life. Just as a jeweler would not be able to sell rough stones, Jill would not have been able to make anything in the publishing field without employing these principles. Her college papers would have been fair to dull rocks. She can say this as the daughter of a bricklayer who was the son of a stonemason in a familial line that dates back to middle 1600. So, of course, I did learn about laying bricks and throwing rocks too. Not very many structures
stand the test of time when we throw rocks (rough drafts). Only with this brick, mortar, and finish will the building stand. But enough about my lineage. My capstone point is that the finishing point of any building or writing should communicate a great product. In creating this description I had the above principles in mind. My college papers, business papers, copywriting, web designs, resumes, and even informal conversations are inclusive of this process of which proofreading is a vital component. Why? Well, I might want to throw a rock at myself if I assume myself incapable of accomplishing as much. And as the daughter of a bricklayer, I think I know about bricks and buildings, and mortar, and capstones such as proofreading. So now at my concluding paragraph contains the capstone of what is called proofreading. Proofreading, as my gem of a teacher told me, is constructed with similar principles. It contains a precise methodology which assures great communication. I would like to involve you in this structure. Please step in the door so I may explain the steps involved in editing and proofreading as art, the elements and principles of Art and English as your toolkit, and design as your structured building of success!
Want to learn to paint or draw your favorite scene or photo you took on your last vacation? Interested in learning how to creatively express your own artistic development through your favorite medium? I have been a practicing artist for 20+ years and I love seeing others progress with mediums they are personally interested in. Painting, drawing, photography and ceramic sculpture have been large focuses of my artistic career; coupling that with my love to educate others I'd enjoy the opportunity to talk to see if I could invest my time teaching you some of the skills and techniques I have learned from all around the world.
I am an experienced artist that has traveled the world, learned from many teachers, observed, utilized tested techniques and have a mentality that I can always be learning. I studied art a little more than average in high school, but graduated with honors in college with several classes of studio level ceramics. During which time I began teaching other students. I loved being able to help those who were in the studio with me.
My love for art began when I was young and have always been pushing the envelope of my skills to get better, and be able to understand more complex principles of art.
As I matured in my artistry I began to develop my own styles from the many teachers I encountered and produced my own pieces that ranged a variety of genres: watercolor, acrylic, drawing, sketching, charcoal drawing, oil pastels, markers, pens, shar
pie temporary tattoos, poetry, wire sculpture, ceramic sculpture, pottery wheel, photography, plant design, bonsai, and most recently I have developed as an oil painter.
With so many avenues I have ventured down, I am thankful that I have learned to take creativity into everything I do. This especially came to true when I began to travel the world. From Europe to Asia, I have learned from different cultures and have taken that opportunity to reflect on and venture back to teach you some of my favorite techniques that I have had the privilege to learn.

I have been teaching professionally for more than 10 years. I can teach a total beginner and I can guarantee the profound change in his skill level (regardless of his age), after 2 months of the attentive following of my instructions. I like to watch the progress of my student and this is what brings me the best satisfaction in my occupation. I think that every human being is unique with his own unique way of thinking and perception of the common things. When teaching, I believe in dialogue, for this reason, I never record my lessons on video, except for the promotional needs. I like to meet new students, to understand their way of thinking and to invent the individual teaching approach or methodology for each one of them.
I am an academically trained professional artist with the professional experience of about 20 years and an impressive record of exhibitions (two of them are museum one-man shows) in the USA and abroad. I am teaching in three languages: ENGLISH, HEBREW and RUSSIAN, representational, realistic, impressionist/post-impressionist, expressionist and abstract painting and drawing with the emphasis on European tradition. I am working and teaching in different mediums, like charcoal, graphite, acrylic, oil, watercolour and soft/oil pastels. I have a Russian classic art education, MFA from Pratt Institute (Painting /Drawing) and about 15 years of overall teaching experience. Currently, I am working as a commissioned portrait artist and also performing on stage with some well-known musicians as a multimedia artist and real-time digital paint
er. As an art educator, I specialize in students of different ages and skill levels. I have developed a methodology for teaching the beginners of pre-pension or relatively late age. I believe in dialogue in education and for this reason, I never record my lessons, except for promotional purposes. I teach online, in my studio or at a student’s home.
