I LOVE teaching. I'm an award-winning artist and I've taught watercolor & drawing for 20+ years. I've taught students of all ages from the US & Italy. I've taught at Cleveland Botanical Garden, Missouri Botanical Garden, Illinois Central College, in churches, libraries, home schools, & at Harvard University Extension School, Cambridge, MA. We will paint or draw what appeals to YOU...from oceans to flowers to abstracts to landscapes to seascapes, etc. --or we can focus on one technique that interests you or "the basics."
Some of my students are now professional artists & some have become art teachers. The materials can be simple. For drawing, we’ll use drawing tools (pencils, charcoal, etc) a great eraser, & paper. For watercolor painting, we'll use a couple of good quality brushes, about 6 paint colors, watercolor paper, water and a
palette. Ta-Da! You’re ready to go. (I’ll provide a detailed supply list for enrolled students.)
One hour and I learned 5 new things, learned how to arrange my palette for en plein air, and had fun!

Jane is extremely friendly and made me feel at ease immediately. She listened to my questions and responded quickly. While I have worked in other media this is my first in watercolors. I look forward to more lessons.
I provide classical instruction in portraiture, still life and landscape in your studio or mine. In this traditional approach to drawing and painting, what will be taught and focused upon are perspective, value and composition in order for the student to develop strong visual language skills. The program of study begins with a specific focus on drawing, since drawing is the foundation upon which all great traditional art is built. Throughout this training, emphasis will be placed on accuracy, or more specifically, seeing and rendering correctly such things as line quality, hard and soft edges, proportion, positive and negative space through abstract form and the use of the full range of values.
I'm a graduate of Dean College in Franklin, MA and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where I majored in art history and studio art with a focus on portrait painting and illustration. I continued further study at the Andeeva Portrait Academy in Sante Fe New Mexico, the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art in Van Nuys, CA and the Sadie Valerie Atelier in San Francisco.
The program of study for drawing will include: Demonstration of one, two and three point perspective, creating the nine step value scale, cast drawing in charcoal, the still life in charcoal and drawing the portrait. The topic of composition will also be covered. I’ve done commissioned work for Audi, the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the American Repertory Theater, the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Kessler Financial Ser
vices, Harvard Business School Publishing, Shilo Baptist Church, the Chelsea Soldiers Home and others. Samples of my work are available to view in my profile. Additional samples are available upon request.
Watercolor painting has a way of showing emotion and expression. I am a graduate of the Baltimore School for the Arts (BSA) majoring in visual artists and continued my studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art. In my spare time, I've taught for the last 15 years. I've tutored actual BSA students. I love painting. I love teaching art. It is an expression of an individual's personal journey.
The most fabulous thing about being an artist is that boundaries regarding creativity are non-existent. The artist is always in a state of learning. Art is a progressive practice that takes time to develop.
Students will be introduced to the color wheel, basic materials needed, perspective, and the differences between realistic and impressionistic painting techniques.
Materials are not included.
Watercolor painting lessons will be assessed based on the individual's current abilities and their goals.
My resume includes graduating from the Baltimore School for the Arts and continued studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art until I decided I didn’t want to be a “Starving Artist”. So, I graduated from the University of Baltimore with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration with a minor in Human Resources Management. My education also includes 27 graduate credits that were leading to a Master’s in Public Administration when I decided to discontinue that path. After twenty-five years in the public sector, I decided to revisit my passion for art in my spare time. As a youngster, I remember wanting to teach art in schools, but I did not want the restrictions that are present in the classrooms and more so today. All forms of art is a freeing practice that is practiced and developed over time. Art is very therapeutic.
I've taught and currently consult with former and current Baltimore School for the Arts visual arts students. For more information, website at jfa-studios.com.
Explore the wonderful world of watercolor in my studio!
I am an artist and teacher with 15 years experience, trained in many artistic mediums teaching to both children and adults from a wide range of diverse backgrounds or experience levels.
Tell me what you want to learn to do, and I will customize your time in my art studio so that you can reach your artistic vision by growing your skills step by step.
I have a contagious enthusiasm and warmth and am interested in building relationships with students over time. My favorite thing in the world is to create a supportive environment where my students are excited to make art they love.
In addition to teaching lessons, I am a working artist, a school teacher, as well as a guest teaching artist with local organizations like camps, senior centers, and non-profits, etc.
I took painting lessons about 10 years ago and haven’t done anything since. I brought a 1/2 finished painting. Maggie was great helping me set up and seeing where I was and what I remembered. Then showed me some techniques to help get me going. I’m looking forward to our next lesson.

Maggie is a talented instructor. Helped me tremendously with oil paint color mixing and matching.

Maggie is an exceptional teacher who has her classroom management skills down to a tee. It’s amazing to watch her command a classroom full of children while remaining sweet and never losing her cool. She was a great mentor and I learned a lot about art education from her!
Educated in Europe, I was always inspired by my teachers and travels to continue honing my artistic skills. With practice, anybody can develop their own style, and I believe it's my duty to pass on the knowledge that was instilled in me as a young artist. Expression of one's soul in art may be sometimes stronger than words, something that psychologists have proven for years.
Before reading about me, I'd like to share up front the honor that my newest student, R., has brought to me by choosing to learn Romanian. Nothing special so far except that he is 100 years old!!!! Yes, you read that correctly: a century old. He is the outmost inspiring person in my life by teaching me that age is just a number and that learning can happen any day if we choose so. R is a medical doctor, a psychologist, a chemist and biologist. Words can't even define how great of a man he is and how grateful I am to learn from him, too. For instance, about a famous language called "esperanto", a language created in the late 19th century.
I'm an enthusiastic learner even after 19 years of formal education (two Masters, one Bachelor) earned on two continents continued by US military education in various forms, and formally tested studen
t who needed to document skills that were not formally captured on paper (like the foreign languages I know).
I love interacting with people and pass on my knowledge from five visited continents, instill love for learning and continuous curiosity for any subject out there. Nothing is impossible when you set your mind to it. Failing once doesn't mean that you'll never win (proof in my athletic years and life ever since); determination, hard work, self-motivation and a good supporting system can bring to reality even the most insignificant dreams that we believe may not come true, and especially those in which we passionately trust.
I believe in breaking down a goal into objectives, assigning tasks to each one of them, and then sticking to achieve them.
I'm a Certified Instructor with the Department of Homeland Security. My hobbies include practicing foreign languages (and proper grammar rules which highly reflect on one's education) by speaking them, learning about cultures and slangs, etymology, watching foreign movies, traveling internationally, taking photos, reading (a lot), carefully planning with room for error and impulsive decisions (to take the boredom out of things), meeting with life long friends, drawing, painting, and spending time outdoors for inspiration and health.
I'm elated at the opportunity of brainstorming with you and giving you tools to be an independent learner.
Want to learn to paint or draw your favorite scene or photo you took on your last vacation? Interested in learning how to creatively express your own artistic development through your favorite medium? I have been a practicing artist for 20+ years and I love seeing others progress with mediums they are personally interested in. Painting, drawing, photography and ceramic sculpture have been large focuses of my artistic career; coupling that with my love to educate others I'd enjoy the opportunity to talk to see if I could invest my time teaching you some of the skills and techniques I have learned from all around the world.
I am an experienced artist that has traveled the world, learned from many teachers, observed, utilized tested techniques and have a mentality that I can always be learning. I studied art a little more than average in high school, but graduated with honors in college with several classes of studio level ceramics. During which time I began teaching other students. I loved being able to help those who were in the studio with me.
My love for art began when I was young and have always been pushing the envelope of my skills to get better, and be able to understand more complex principles of art.
As I matured in my artistry I began to develop my own styles from the many teachers I encountered and produced my own pieces that ranged a variety of genres: watercolor, acrylic, drawing, sketching, charcoal drawing, oil pastels, markers, pens, shar
pie temporary tattoos, poetry, wire sculpture, ceramic sculpture, pottery wheel, photography, plant design, bonsai, and most recently I have developed as an oil painter.
With so many avenues I have ventured down, I am thankful that I have learned to take creativity into everything I do. This especially came to true when I began to travel the world. From Europe to Asia, I have learned from different cultures and have taken that opportunity to reflect on and venture back to teach you some of my favorite techniques that I have had the privilege to learn.
