Hello!

My name is Perry and I am a professional classical, flamenco and electric guitarist performing and recording in the Dallas area. I studied with Robert Guthrie at SMU for many years, as well as Brad McLemore of "Soul Food Cafe" and professional jazz musician Chuck Pangburn at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. In addition, I have taken masterclasses w/ many professional guitarists in all styles such as the flamenco guitarist Miguel Antonio.

I am familiar with all styles. I teach using a foundation in classical/flamenco style and technique. I have found that for my own career as a recording artist in both the classical, acoustic and electric guitar fields that the classical/flamenco styles are the most useful for developing and training the hands to become a consummate professional.

I teac
h beginner to advanced students of any age. I also can provide pro and amateur electric guitarists an in-depth study of correct hand postures and left-hand/right-hand technique which can help to refine their overall technique and stylistic approach. I can also advise professional electric guitarists on their electronics, effects pedals, and amplifiers to achieve their own individual sound. I also teach Bass, and reading the Bass clef.

My teaching specialties include: Solfeggio, Sight Reading, Music Theory, Scales and Modes, Left and Right Hand Technique, Blues Progressions, Jazz Standards the Classical Repertoire, Flamenco styles, techniques and repertoire, and the works of Sor, Giuliani, and Carcassi, Brouwer, Aguado, Villa-Lobos, Sabicas and Paco de Lucia.

I have an in-depth knowledge of the stylistic approaches and techniques of such guitarists as Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, and SRV to name a few, and I can teach you the components they use to build their signature licks.

As a rule I only transcribe to give the students examples for lessons. I intend for all of my students to grow as musicians, so my lessons do not consist solely of transcribed solos and riffs.

I have a vast library of music, so I can draw from my own resources to teach you, or from a method of your choosing.

My schedule has a few openings right now. I do teach outside of my stated teaching radius, but ONLY at the 60 minute rate.

I teach people of all ages, from children to adults. I believe everyone is on an even keel, if they are willing and eager to learn.

*** Lesson Details ***
Emphasis on classical posture and technique.

All students learn to play basic blues and jam
Technique varies depending on the particular style the student wishes to learn.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I presently don't teach in my home studio. I can bring a folding music stand or extra footstool if necessary.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a limited number of learning materials such as copied exercises, listening or practicing CD on occasion. However, I feel that it is the student's responsibility to provide their own guitars, and the bulf of their own learning materials and necessary electronic equipment. This can include footstools, music stands, method books, amps, cables, pedals, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and this has given me the time to study, perform, and perfect many styles of guitar playing.

I studied classical and flamenco guitar with Robert Guthrie for 4 years before and after my studies in the SMU program. I've also played in jazz and rock ensembles since the age of 14. I studied with Chuck Pangburn, pro jazz cat, and Brad McLemore, an indie rock songwriter, early on in my studies as an adolescent.

I encourage most students to learn to play on a classical or nylon-string guitar early on in order to develop proper technique, posture, sensitivity, and sensibility. I also encourage all students to learn to sight-read at a very early point in their studies. Once, this hurdle is cleared many other challenges are easily surpassed.

Presently, I am developing a new method which incorporates solfeggio, blues and popular music forms, and improvisational playing. I also am exploring the vanguard of new guitar technology such as the Moog Guitar, analog effects, and various guitar synthesizers.

I try to introduce an understanding of music theory early on so that students develop a full comprehension of not only the written language of music, but also the sonic-aural language of music.

Perry takes the time to explain flamenco and related styles deeply and thoroughly. He also provides detailed micro-scale feedback on hand/arm placement, orientation, range and which muscle groups to engage. But more than the technical, he has an awesome vibe and makes learning guitar quite an enjoyable experience.

Excellent Guitar Teacher

Within a month of lessons with Perry, my daughter was in love with the guitar! Perry is professional and great with kids! He couples the basics with discourse about genre, and is very encouraging! Perry helped guide us in the right guitar and accessories to get us set up before the lessons began, which was incredibly helpful. We are very glad we selected Perry to teach our 7-year old to play guitar and look forward to watching her grow under his guidance.

About Deron
I am a San Diego native and have shown my paintings extensively throughout San Diego. It wasn't until several years after I graduated from UCLA in 1994 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts, that I really tried to show my work in galleries. Most recently, my work has been in shows at Project X Gallery, The Museum of the Living Artist, The San Diego Art Department, Sanctuary Gallery, Limbo Fine Arts, and Sushi Gallery. I have just started to show in other cities, most recently at the Rialto Theater in Corpus Christi, Texas and The Nico Gallery in Seattle, Washington.

Along with my painting career, I have created children’s book and magazine illustrations, done graphic design work, and taught others how to express themselves creatively through art. I have been creating curricula for children’s art programs and teaching them. I also have been te
aching adults how to paint at the San Diego Art Department for the past 10 years and, in the past two years, with Painting &Vino.

Through my decade of teaching painting, I have honed a teaching style that encourages students to balance creativity and imagination with technique and skill. I strive to help students discover a process in which they are able to express themselves creatively while also teaching paint application techniques, color theory and the Elements and Principles of design. I am often in front of 50+ people at a time presenting my painting techniques within a limited amount of time.

Hi! My name is Julia A. I have been tutoring students of all ages and skill levels at learning centers, colleges, libraries and schools since 2008.

My instruction extends nationwide, with students from all corners of the US, utilizing online tutoring services such as Skype.

My main field of study is in MATH (trig, algebra, geometry, precalculus), CHEMISTRY (high school and college), and PHYSICS (high school and college).

I completed my Bachelors in Physics and Mathematics Education at Hunter University and have gained experience with both in-person and online group instruction and curriculum development.

Some examples of the students I have tutored are: Elementary school students preparing for State competitions and exams; High school and College students in preparance for entrance exams, and in subjects such as algebra, geom

In addition, I am thorough and meticulous, by paying special attention to how the student grasps information and retains it, I prepare individualized handwritten reviews, with supplemental material found online and in texts.

I assign homework to keep my students ahead of what is going on in class, and a visual and intuitive understanding of the concepts I present is important to me, so I use visual aids (diagrams and interactive models) to help my students integrate what they learn with me in real life situations.

My instruction includes:
1. Tutoring based on the school curriculum
2. Instruction on the home-schooling curriculum
3. Assisting those with a gap in going back to school/university.

I start with an assessment based on what the student has trouble with or last remembers covering in school, and prepare material going from there.

As a result, my students all have improved grades without any need for cramming before tests, and I encourage a stress-free and easygoing learning environment.

Julia creates her own curriculum which is better than anything my daughters receive in their schools.
I see marked improvements in their grades for this past year, and my eldest is actually skipping fourth grade as a result of lessons. I am astounded as to my girls' progress, and greatly appreciative of our tutor's expertise.
Her patient, methodical approach to teaching is why I see us remaining with her for all of our educational instruction. She has already taught arithmetic to my youngest (3rd grade), and algebra to my eldest (starting 5th this sept!), and is proceeding with more advanced math with no issue whatsoever. I cannot recommend her enough.

I'm in a fast paced trig course at my uni, and we've covered things I never did in high school. I did 5 lessons over skype with Julia, and know I've found a keeper. She sends stuff to practice on in advance and has me work with her like I would with my professor. She comes up with practice based on my weakest areas and never shortens time. I don't even have to ask for review material because she assigns hw to work on, and basically, I'm a master at graphing now.

Manhei and I have been colleagues for the longest time and he is by far one of the most exceptionally skilled artists that I have had the fortune to know. Both in his philosophical approach to teaching and his own art. He is very patient and will help you build your skill level in the arts to new heights. I began teaching while studying in Art Institute. My first students were 5 to 7 yr. old kids. It was very challenging, but also very rewarding. I was teaching them skills, they were teaching me patience. Later the age of my students grew, until I ended up teaching the same students I was in the same classes just 6 months ago. Again another challenge. I love challenges and even more I love helping others to overcome them.
My philosophy about teaching is that everybody can learn, it is only the way how we learn is different for different people. Another very important thing - I strive to be creative, respectful and approachable.

I have been teaching since 2006 on a variety of topics. I graduated with an BA from the University of Wisconsin. My degree is in History with and emphasis on East Asian history.

I've taught all age groups from age 2 up to retirees. My teaching experience includes one-on-one and group classes in a variety of settings. I've taught corporate classes, private lessons, small groups, and traditional classroom lessons.

We have a student-centric philosophy of learning. Lessons are generally relaxed and designed to work towards accomplishing student determined goals. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. Special focus on topics like music theory, self-accompaniment, composition, song writing, and home recording are available as well.


What are your personal goals? We'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.

Lessons with small children are more focused on just having fun while developing a good musical foundation, but we prefer for them to have as much personal ownership of their lesson as possible.

I began drawing in three dimensions at the age of two (it was a stuffed panda bear doll if you must know). I am a keenly visual person, and began winning awards in art in elementary school, and eventually went on to become student artist of the year in New York state while a sophomore in high school. That same year I had a show in a gallery in Manhattan. The following year I made my own short animated film and was hired by a private academy to do all their creative print marketing. My approach to teaching art is similar to my approach to teaching communication. Sometimes art is about telling a story. Often it can be about making a point (even if that point is just about beauty or dysfunction, or beauty in dysfunction). But whatever its purpose, art is *always* about seeing, with more than your eyes. My greatest passion is teaching. I love to help people learn and grow. My teaching style is always personalized to the learning style of my students, with a focus on helping them to experience lots of those epiphany/discovery moments (when the lightbulb goes on and knowledge becomes understanding) that deepen their own appetite to learn.

Although I have a degree from M.I.T., I’m far from your typical M.I.T. grad. I’ve been a news anchor, a radio disc jockey, a missionary, a pastor, a corporate trainer, a consultant, an executive officer, and a business entrepreneur. I would love to share as many of my experiences as can help you in your particular subject of interest.

Regarding Speech and Public Speaking, I've been a public speaker, teacher, and presenter to groups of three to three thousand for over twenty years, and have coach
ed students from five to sixty-five in how to confidently connect with people in a broad range of contexts, from very private to frighteningly public. But my lessons are about much more than saying the right things in front of people. Life is about relationships and all relationships start (and sadly often fail) with communication. Being a great conversationalist, story teller, or compelling public speaker is all about connecting with your audience, whether with one or one thousand. My goal is to help you learn to confidently listen, express yourself, and connect at a heart level. In our times together you'll learn things like:

• Organizing your thoughts in a way that resonates with your listeners
• Actively engaging with people and not just transferring information
• Turning fear and timidity into powerful tools for connecting
• Cultivating approachability and confidence with your audience

Regarding Math, some people are naturally good at math and some are like deer in the headlights. Studying Physics, Engineering, and Architecture at M.I.T. meant learning and doing *lots* of math. I find the greatest delight helping those who aren’t naturally good at math learn to appreciate and conquer it in the context of their regular, day to day lives. My greatest accomplishment in this respect has been teaching one of my daughters who hates math to embrace it as a wonderful, dependable, and mysterious, faith-building part of life. My approach is to make math real, that is, to connect math to life so that not just how to do it, but why doing it, is valuable and makes sense.

Regarding the Bible, I have been an exhaustive student and teacher of the Bible for 32 years and would welcome the opportunity to help you either learn it, teach it, or both (which is what often happens). Nothing that I have taught in my life is as important as the truths and life lessons I have learned and taught from its pages. It is scary and funny and crazy and tender (among many things) but most of all it is more than what most of us have heard (especially in church), and it will change us if we let it. Our studies would include language, history, culture, geography, and even science, combined with lots of thought provoking questions, and creative insight. We won’t shy away from the difficult topics that often cause doubt or division, but we will certainly avoid the canned, off-the-shelf answers that do more harm than good in helping people digest this book. This is not a safe class. If you already think you have a pretty good handle on the Bible, then this class is probably not for you. But if, like me, something about the profession and practice of Christianity around you seems terribly off, or missing, then this may be exactly what you’re looking for. Expect that much of what you thought or believed (but perhaps never really read or studied) will likely be challenged. This is not an academic study, but rather an upfront and personal interaction with The Truth.

First off, I am absolutely terrible at all things math related.
As in, two plus two equals five, sort of bad. Okay, maybe not that bad, but still... ;-) Mark helped make math easy and understandable for me, in a way that textbooks or even lectures (regardless of how "good" they might be) can't. Many people have head knowledge, and are labeled as a teacher because of their textbook understanding, but the real test for a good teacher is how to transfer that head knowledge to another person in an easy, understandable and fun way. Mark does all that and I believe more in everything he teaches. He has mastered how to reach every person on the level they're at and explain not only what they are trying to learn, but also the "why" behind it.

He is not just a one trick pony either. I've heard him speak on many occasions, and each time, regardless of what he's speaking about he sounds deeply passionate and thoughtful.

I also enjoy acting, (not necessarily as a career, but I have done a few productions here and there) and often times a character I will be representing will need an accent to distinguish it. Mark can pick up just about any accent and guide you into mastering it. The longest it has taken me to learn at least the basics of an accent under his guidance, has been two days. Now that doesn't mean everyone will have a perfectly mastered accent in that same time, but it does say something about his abilities as a teacher.

All this to say, I believe one of the best qualities of a truly great teacher is the ability to be a student, and be humble enough to learn themselves. I think the proof of this quality is very evident in Mark's varied abilities, and I would highly recommend him to many.

Mark​ has been my instructor for ​many years in a variety of subjects. He has a gift for helping people to not just have head knowledge, but practical, every day, what he would call heart knowledge. ​He is more than a teacher and his influence on who I am is greater than the lessons he taught me. It is important to him that one sees the big picture, even if it isn't always what we'd like it to be. He is passionate about ​using the talents God has given him to serve others. He explores the Scriptures diligently, as well as very thoroughly. It is more than a gift but I believe it is a huge purpose of his life to help others come to a more full knowledge of God and the relationship He desires to have with us.


I have also taken lessons from him in all of the other subjects he teaches and have found the same fundamental principles of his instruction methods/style to hold true. He loves to help people to really understand what they are learning in an applicable way. He knows how to adapt to his students' needs for optimal learning and growth. From visuals to stories and examples he always finds a way to make each lesson not only memorable but fun. I would highly recommend him as an instructor in any one of the lessons he offers.

I first met Mark over 20 years ago when he was a missionary in eastern Europe. We worked together on the mission field and I had opportunity to see first hand that he is indeed a man of many talents. Though Mark's primary job overseas was to teach and preach the Bible, I quickly realized that I had never before come across an individual with such talent and gifts in such a wide range of subjects. Mark is a true Renaissance man. Though he studied astrophysics at one of the world's most prestigious universities, namely MIT, he is also an incredibly gifted artist. He can paint, draw and write beautiful poetry just as easily as he can preach and teach powerfully and persuasively. He breaks any subject down into digestible parts, making it easy to understand. He is fun to listen to and learn from as he shares lots of stories and anecdotes that bring to life whatever subject he is teaching. And it never ceases to amaze me that he is equally gifted in math, which is my weakest subject and one I have greatly feared and avoided for the better part of my life. Yet when explaining any mathematical problem, he makes it seem so easy and doable. Mark is extremely intelligent and a quick learner and is able to master whatever subjects interest him. But it is his ability and passion to transfer his knowledge and skills to others in a fun and memorable way that is his greatest gift.

Watercolor painting has a way of showing emotion and expression. I am a graduate of the Baltimore School for the Arts (BSA) majoring in visual artists and continued my studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art. In my spare time, I've taught for the last 15 years. I've tutored actual BSA students. I love painting. I love teaching art. It is an expression of an individual's personal journey.

The most fabulous thing about being an artist is that boundaries regarding creativity are non-existent. The artist is always in a state of learning. Art is a progressive practice that takes time to develop.

Students will be introduced to the color wheel, basic materials needed, perspective, and the differences between realistic and impressionistic painting techniques.

Materials are not included.

Watercolor painting lessons will be assessed based on the individual's current abilities and their goals.

My resume includes graduating from the Baltimore School for the Arts and continued studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art until I decided I didn’t want to be a “Starving Artist”. So, I graduated from the University of Baltimore with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration with a minor in Human Resources Management. My education also includes 27 graduate credits that were leading to a Master’s in Public Administration when I decided to discontinue that path. After twenty-five years in the public sector, I decided to revisit my passion for art in my spare time. As a youngster, I remember wanting to teach art in schools, but I did not want the restrictions that are present in the classrooms and more so today. All forms of art is a freeing practice that is practiced and developed over time.

ungsters sit for an actual tutoring session and learn something while being entertained? I like to incorporate age-appropriate art (drawing) or activities in any of my academic sessions to keep my students engaged and entertained.

Sharron was an awesome instructor!!! She was very professional. She showed up early to set up for my daughter's paint and sip party. Sharron gave very detailed descriptions to help guide the amateur artists. Everyone enjoyed the personal feedback that was given. Sharron made our party a huge success.
