Ron has been my piano instructor for the past three years. I find him to be very knowledgeable in jazz as well as classical music. He goes above the allotted time to ensure your understanding of instructions, and maintains a professional demeanor at all times, even with wit in his oral approach. I would not hesitate to recommend him for piano instruction at all levels!

I've been teaching piano for over 25 years and have taught students from 4 to 70. I try to show each student how to analyze the music to find patterns that make learning notes and rhythms easier.
I also emphasize strategies for practicing that make learning new material a quicker and more efficient process.

I teach the basics: scales, sight reading, and note recognition. It all ties into theory, so the student will be getting a two for one. Learning piano is how many people begin to appreciate their love for music.

"I have recently returned from a week long stay at the Sonatina Piano Camp in Bennington VT and would like to notify all those piano students who may read this review as to the wonderful experience attending this camp can be. The camp takes adult piano students at all piano skill levels from beginner to well accomplished. Students stay in shared rooms (2-4 persons) which includes a piano in every room. Attendance is usually 18- 27 persons. The mansion itself is home to approx. 30 pianos. All meals are provided (and are outstanding) as well as piano classes and 4 lessons with concert pianists or university piano professors. Ample time is provided to practice a performance piece for the end of week performance night. Master classes are given on several evenings for those wishing to perform a work in progress piece for the attendees and the camp owner providing a public lesson.
I have found that the attending student group to be extremely supportive to all other students especially to those experiencing performance anxiety. Repeating attendees (from all over the country) have formed lasting friendships among themselves which have endured for years. Eight week long sessions are given throughout the year. In addition there are summer sessions for school aged youth
and also 4 short week sessions for those wishing to try a sampling of the camp. This past January was my 3rd year attending the camp and I will be returning again next year. My experiences at the camp have been truly unforgettable. More information can be obtained at Sonatina.com"

"If your child is interested in learning to play piano and read music, I would definitely recommend Linda Bates. I have truly enjoyed watching my daughter grow through her lessons.
She was only 5 1/2 when she asked to start learning piano, and even though I thought she might be too young, I didn’t want to discourage her. Linda said that as long as she could count from 1-10, knew her left from right and the alphabet through “G” she could start learning piano.
We have had stretches of easy sailing and lots of rough patches. It’s been a great set of life lessons for our family.
Linda tried several different approaches to see what would work best for my daughter. She has a great balance of patience, structure and encouragement. She’ll let my daughter chatter on about (non-piano related) stuff for a minute, and then, gently but firmly, get her back on track.
We have gone to several recitals and enjoyed hearing her other students play. We are consistently impressed.
My daughter has been taking lessons for two years now, and finally loves piano. She sees the benefit of working at something that doesn’t come easy. She practices every day without complaining! (She’s practiced every day for a while now, but there was A LOT of resistance in the beginning, and middle, lol). Now she knows that most people are not just naturally talented, they actually put in time and effort.
I’m sure Linda would be great for any adult too. One of these days I just might have to find out for myself... although my daughter keeps insisting she’s going to teach me!"

"Jesse has been a wonderful guitar and piano teacher for my 17-year old son, and has been above and beyond patient with him. He has tried a variety of techniques to encourage Jack's interest and to inspire him. I am sure that Jesse's very personalized teaching style would be great with any age student. I can attest from experience that he can really relate to teenagers. He will not give up on them and truly wants them to learn--and to love--music."

I have been so happy with the girls' progress that we added voice lessons for my older daughter. I am especially impressed with her ability to teach my younger daughter, who is not yet reading, to learn to read music. I have and will continue to recommend her to friends."

""I want to keep taking lessons from Buzz for the rest of my life!"
So said my 10 year old son after his first lesson with Buzz. The same kid who had been begging to quit taking piano lessons with his former teacher situation.
Buzz is a master of "following the student's inspiration." Rather than force a lesson sequence out of a book, Buzz observes the student's own thinking about the music experience and tailors fun learning objectives within or close to the student's inspiration. As a result, my son is much more willing to practice, and has recently "composed" his own piece of music, learned about different styles, and absorbed an impressive amount of music theory. Buzz is highly recommended for any student who has musical aptitude, but requires the right motivation and inspiration."
