Over the years, Atlanta has grown in popularity in the music industry bringing more students, musicians, and producers to our area. As a piano teacher from Decatur, GA, I have the advantage understanding that Atlanta is not just an urban setting. Rather, Atlanta is a small city, nonetheless, that contains suburban towns that surround or are within the Metropolitan area. One of those towns is Decatur. Decatur is a suburban, historical town located within the Atlanta Metropolitan Area.

I love living and teaching piano lessons in Decatur. As a full-time student of Agnes Scott College, a private all girls college in Decatur, I have the advantage of living amongst authentic architecture, historical monuments, and most importantly, the music.

Decatur is a very artsy town. When you look down any street in Decatur you will see music schools or music venues. Musicians from all over the country travel to Georgia to perform in one of Georgia’s most successful venues, which is Eddie’s Attic, located in the heart of Decatur. It was here where artists such as John Mayer and Janelle Monae got their start. It makes me proud to know that I will be graduating from the same place as Alma Mater of Sugarland lead singer, Jennifer Nettles. I absorb all of theses characteristics of Decatur and use it in my artistic endeavors. I am always inspired to think and create outside of the box. I only hope that my students feel the warmth of Decatur and are inspired just as much as I am. What better place to teach music than in a creative town? It is here that my students can learn and discover passions to help them become better singers, pianists, and individuals.
