About Rene

Knowing at the age of 5 that music was my life, by being brought up surrounded by praise music and gospel, my early exposure to music helped me to find every Instrument and style just my thing! I wanted to play everything and learn all aspects of music. I started with singing in the children's choi

Music is an important part of our lives, and thus I am not a one-style type teacher. I work with everyone at their current level and develop lessons for them based upon their desires. I believe that teaching the classics is just as important to teaching current music and inspiring each of my students to reach beyond their current comfort zone. I stress developing good practice habits and fundamentals, as these make any style of playing more enjoyable.

I'm sorry, I cannot handle this Instructor for my children. She wasn't me but she's not quite the people person I expected. Her personality is not a good match for a high school tutor. Unfortunately her English is not good enough. Her accent is entirely too strong. Also she does not know enough Geometry to help my kids.

I've taught beginning through advanced cello lessons to my students in elementary, middle and high school in orchestra classes as well as privately. My cello students have received numerous scholarships to various colleges, universities and conservatories and music camps. Cello is a wonderfully robust and special instrument that has such a broad range that it needs to encompass 3 different clefs. The cello can produce beautiful tenor or bass like sounds as well as higher pitched melodies that almost sound like one is playing the violin or viola! I love teaching the cello and have taught students at all levels and ages. I've taken private cello lessons in the past with really great cello teachers and performers, so I have learned so many different teaching techniques and approaches to the cello that help to make each student's progress more rapid, consistent and comfortable.

About Ralph

I've spent most of my adult life teaching string instruments at all levels in the Northern Virginia public schools both as an orchestra director and as a private teacher. I have a music contracting business called Symphony To Go. If you would like to see my teaching studio, please consider visiting

As a passionate cello player, I want my students to have fun but also really understand their instrument and the music they are playing! Students will learn their scales through the circle of fifths, shifting positions, vibrato techniques, music theory, and performing with an accompanist. They are expected to have fun but to work hard - it’s totally worth it!

About Melissa

I have been playing piano for 23 years and cello for 16 years. I love sharing music with others and seeing them grow to love music as well. I am currently a pianist for the KC Ballet’s ROAD program. I have a Bachelors of Music from Lindenwood University. I have been a piano accompanist for 7 years.

I am a professional cellist with years of performing and teaching.
I attended the Jacobs School of Music for my undergraduate and masters' degrees and was a graduate teaching assistant. I also received my Stott Pilates Teaching Certification while at IU and incorporate postural alignment into my teaching. I have Suzuki certification and work on a strong technical foundation, which both facilitates performing and frees us up to explore non-traditional techniques and other genres.

Most importantly, I strive to nurture the love and passion for music and cello and I am here to help you achieve your musical goals.

About Maria

I teach cellists of all ages and abilities and tailor the lesson to the individual. Lessons include standard repertoire, and if requested, non-traditional styles as well. I have experience with solo repertoire, orchestra, chamber music, and folk music, and can help you develop your ear and even sin

"Megan was wonderful. She put me at ease immediately and worked skillfully and gently to assess my skill level. I played when I was in school nearly 3 decades ago and wanted to remember the joy again of playing. I had forgotten a lot of what I had learned, but knew that with the right teacher, she could help me regain that. And I am hopeful she will help me with that. This was my first lesson, but I am looking forward to all of the ones to come. - Thank you so much Megan!"

"Jessica is a very good cello teacher. Her meticulous teaching really helped me to sharpen my intonation and finger techniques. Although I only had half a period to learn from her, it was a productive learning experience every minute. Ever since the end of 8th grade I had no cello teacher and it was hard for me to find a new one, however soon I found out that my high school had a cello teacher totally ready for me. When I started taking lessons from her, I found myself learning much more than I would in a regular orchestra. If you're looking for someone to help you sharpen your cello skills, Jessica is the right teacher for you."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
