Why I Like Teaching Music

Jacob S.

By Jacob S.-Fort Lauderdale Guitar Teacher

Teaching music is significantly different than any other subject. There is not only the intellectual aspect, but also the applied application mixed with an emotional impact which allows for the most unique opportunity in the world. Teaching guitar lessons in Fort Lauderdale only adds to the appeal with the diverse cultures throughout South Florida. The students I have had the opportunity to teach have different dynamics of interests, which keeps my job as a music teacher exciting and full of surprises. One day I may have a student that is interested in learning Jazz, and working on scales in order to improve their improvisational skills. The next student may be a 15 year old that is only interested in learning heavy rock. Having students that come from such varying walks of life allows me to dive into different genres, styles, and types of music that I may not otherwise be able to locate on my own. These different dynamics keep me working on specific techniques that allow me to continue improving myself. Although it may be cliché, I learn just as much from my students as they do from me. However, the most rewarding part of teaching is having the opportunity to work with a student for a number of weeks, and being able to see the “light” go on when they conquer an aspect of a song/piece that they have worked so hard to beat. Ultimately, as a Fort Lauderdale guitar teacher, it is seeing it all pulled together into one beautiful, flowing, dynamic manipulation of sound into music.
