About Matt
I have been teaching guitar to students on the East and West Coasts of the United States for over 20 years. I was always interested in music and made my first “recording” at the age of 2 and a half. I got serious about playing the guitar when I was 10 years old after hearing the legendary Randy Rhoads for the first time.
I begged my parents for a guitar, which I received at Christmas, along with a parental demand that I take classical guitar lessons, and a warning that if I did not practice, my parents would sell the guitar. Six months later, I still had the guitar, and a brand new electric guitar. I never stopped practicing, and spent summers at the National Guitar Summer Workshop, where I even built a guitar at age 15.
By the time I was in high school, I was regularly playing in bands, recording in professional studios, and studying M
usic Theory. I credit my early development to my teachers, Ron Bluen, and Steve Famiglietti. I aspire to offer my students the same positive influence I received during my formative years.
After high school, I attended the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California, where I honed my chops. From there, I played with various bands, including Hollywood Rose (the precursor to Guns N’ Roses) and with Bruce Bouillet (Racer X, The Scream, Epidemic) and Tommy Chong.
In 2006, I released my solo record, Contributions For An Atom Bomb. The Album has garnered a cult following and the respect of some of my all-time heroes.
Today, I continue to play live shows, teach, study, write, record and jam. Nothing makes me prouder than jamming with my students and watching them grow as musicians.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to focus on three things every lesson.
1. Technical Exercises- to get your fingers moving and build strength and coordination
2. Music Theory - the fingerboard and the way music works seem complicated, but I have a great methodical and simple way to break it down so it all makes sense.
3. Tunes - I like to work with the music you like. We take songs and break them down to understand the techniques and theory behind them. You won't just play the song like the recording, you'll understand the chords and scales and why your favorite artist chose them.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have guitars, a bass, pedals, cables, metronome, practice amps, etc. All you need to bring is your guitar.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own equipment and materials, students must provide their own guitar, amp, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I teach students to understand theory and the fingerboard. All styles and genres are acceptable but I specialize in rock.

An excellent teacher

I started taking lessons with Matt when I was 16 and when we started up again this year (I'm now 31) we were able to pick right back up where we left off. That should tell you all you need to know about how much he cares about his students.

He's an especially excellent teacher because he's so passionate about music and his instrument. You'll never run out of new things to learn because he's always learning new things himself.

Nobody will teach you to love the guitar like this dude!

About Rachelle
Hello! My name is Rachelle and I'm a professional singer, songwriter and pianist from Victoria, BC, Canada. My background in music is a blend of Pop, Rock, Jazz Classical, Blues and R&B. I was featured in Keyboard Magazine’s November 2012 Issue as one of the 6 Best Keyboard Heroes to watch out for.
Some of my performance highlights have been opening up for Nelly Furtado in 2001 in our hometown Victoria BC, and again on her "Loose" tour in 2007 at Roger's Arena in Vancouver, BC for an audience of 15,000. I've taught for six years helping foster my student’s talents and reach their musical goals. Past students have attained lead roles in high school musicals, toured in professional
bands locally and internationally.
When it comes to teaching music a “cookie cutter" approach is never used. I understand everyone has a unique learning s
tyle and I try my best to cater my lessons around each student's individual needs and goals. I was fortunate enough to grow up in an incredibly musical household. My dad toured with Bryan Adams as his guitarist and my mom’s worked with heavy weights such as David Foster as a professional vocalist. I was mentored by some of the best in the music business since childhood. I started learning piano at the age of four and started recording vocals for radio commercials at the age of six. The experience I've acquired over the years from recording in world class studios and touring internationally I believe has given me invaluable insight to impart with my students. I’m very passionate about teaching. Whether you want to learn how to play your favorite song on the piano or polish your vocal skills to sing professionally on a big stage in front of a large crowd, I’m your gal!

*** Lesson Details ***
I understand that starting lessons can feel a bit scary and outside of ones comfort zone. It takes courage to try something new! I take pride in creating a fun, stress free learning environment, as I know it's incredibly important. I like to encourage having the best of both worlds when it comes to learning voice and piano. That means introducing some sight-reading as well as how to play freestyle, or without sheet music. What to expect upon your first lesson would be an easygoing assessment as well as something to take home and practice. I want to find out what your music tastes and background are and your personal goals, what you would like to get out of lessons. I tailor lessons around each student and their personal learning style.
Piano students: The following is an example of what students can expect to learn, proper technique, sight reading, chords and popular song progressions, how to develop a piece of music, rhythmic training, ear training, how to play their favorite song(s). I use a combo of music books, Alfred Series, Bastien and Dozen a Day for technique and finger exercises as well write out music for students too on the song they would like to learn. I make a list of songs you would like to learn and also suggest some too that I think you would like and can also further develop your piano playing skills.

Voice Lessons: I’m a firm believer that we can learn a lot from hearing ourselves back on recordings. We are our own toughest critic. Recording ourselves singing helps us hear where our strengths and weaknesses are. It might seem a little uncomfortable at first listening back, I know! However, it offers fresh perspective for us to able to take our voices to the next level. I record using an app on my iPhone or iPad and encourage my students to record as well. If they do not have a recording device I email the recording to them to study along with the notes and exercises they are given to work on. This enables the students to witness their personal progress from lesson to lesson! It’s a great learning tool!
The following is an example of what voice students can expect to learn: proper breathing techniques, how improve tone and extend their range, how to develop agility, pop riffs, and dynamic control, how to prepare for auditions, live shows and studio recording and much more!

What I expect from my students: To come to lessons with an open mind, a readiness to learn, to try new things and to apply what they learn each lesson to continue making weekly steady progress ☺ We only get out of something what we put into it right?

I like to be as flexible as possible, I understand that often times students have many other things going on in their lives whether it be sports, school or work etc. We go at a pace you feel comfortable with but enough where you feel you are getting a bit of a challenge each week to be growing. Let’s make some beautiful music together!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha Mox8 (88 weighted keys). Acoustic Guitar, Sound System, Allen & Heath Mixing board, SM58 Mic, Mic Stand, Music Stand, Shecter Electric Guitar, Pro Tools 9, Duet Apogee

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my student to provide a keyboard at least 77-88keys or piano. i can provide a powered speaker, sm58 mic, mic stand for practicing voice and performance.

*** Specialties ***
Pop, Rock, Blues, Jazz, R&B, Classical

Rachelle is extremely personable, knowledgeble, and communicative in her technique training. She is really helping me to unlearn all the bad habits that have naturally developed over the years, and I'm already more cognitive of my vocal projection. She's at the top of her game. Would highly recommend her to ANYONE in search of the best instructor.

A fantastic teacher

In just my first few lessons with Rachelle, I learned more about the anatomical aspect of singing than I had in 10 years of choir/singing. She put great emphasis on the technique and skill aspects, while still balancing it with emotional connection. Perhaps my favorite thing about Rachelle is that instead of giving you songs to practice or telling you exactly what kind of songs you need to be doing, she allows you to bring in any music that you like and allows you to pick the focus of your lessons (whether you want to work more on breath support or volume or tone quality etc.). She maintains a flexible, laid-back and supportive attitude and has been a wonderful help for me.

Rachelle is a great teacher!

I took lessons with Rachelle for about 2 years and I'm so glad I did. I have improved so much vocally as well as performance-wise. It was a lot of fun to be able to work on my own favorite songs instead of purely classical. I would definitely recommend taking lessons with Rachelle!

About Angela
EDUCATION

My musical education began while sitting on my mother's lap as she taught piano lessons. I began studying cello with a member of the Kansas City Philharmonic at age 9, and at age ten, I followed in my mother's footsteps to play the flute. I played all three instruments, (piano, cello and flute) until high school when it was became clear to me that I wanted to be an orchestra teacher. With this dream in mind, I began playing the violin as well.
I graduated from Drake University with a Bachelor's in Music Education in 1989 and again in 1999 with a Master's degree.

PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE

As a youngster, I was the youngest member of the Kansas City Youth Symphony and the Kansas City Cello Choir performing with these two groups for eight years. I was chosen from applicants nation wide, to perform in Carnegie Hall and trav
el Europe with "America's Youth in Concert" and I was a three time All-Stater.

While attending Drake University, I played in the Drake University Orchestra and the Des Moines Symphony, and I was the winner of the Young Artist Competition awarding me the honor as featured soloist with the Drake Symphony Orchestra.
In 1993 I began playing with the Encore String Trio. This trio plays on a regular basis for weddings and receptions.
I currently play cello in the Encore String Trio, and viola in the Long Beach Community Orchestra.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience includes nearly 30 years of private teaching. I've had the pleasure of teaching all areas of music; elementary general music, band, choir and orchestra. During my 20 years of teaching orchestra in the public schools, I implemented many innovative opportunities for my students such as children's concert which drew more than 700 people in attendance, strolling strings, cello choir and a viola choir, all of which proved to be very motivational for the students. My goal of teaching is to make music fun for all.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe music should be fun. I provide you with several playing opportunities throughout the year, ranging from solo to group playing. I provide large group playing opportunities at Christmas and at the recitals. Every group playing opportunity is accompanied with food and games for all. This studio is FUN!

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether you are studying for recitals, competitions, a music career or just for fun, you can expect equal attention to technique and musicianship in your lessons.
Lessons will be tailored to each students needs which may include flash cards, supplemental materials, ear training, sight reading, technical studies, scales, and solo work.
You are never to old to learn to play an instrument. Over half of my students are adult beginners. Because of this, I provide group playing opportunities and I organize a solo ensemble contest for my students. This gives opportunities to the adult beginners that they missed out on as a child. You will have a lesson by yourself, monthly mini recitals in my studio, and you will have the opportunity to play orchestra music as a group all right here in my studio. You are guaranteed to learn how to play your instrument, have fun and gain great friendships here in this studio. I'm looking forward to introducing you to our studio family.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The teachers studio is in a large room with multiple windows for natural light. The room includes instruments and stands in the middle of the room.

*** Specialties ***
I use the Suzuki method books. I am a classical player and I teach classical music.

About Brent
I have twenty-five years of Piano playing experience and have taught Piano privately for the past six years. I have studied in private lessons for over ten years, with different teachers. (I have also performed extensively in the past as an Electric Guitarist for jazz, big-band, funk and metal bands.)

My passion for teaching Piano led me on a 2-year long apprenticeship as a Piano Technician. The experiences from rebuilding and tuning real-life Pianos in a real-life shop were unforgettable, and still greatly assist me as a teacher of the Instrument today.

I personally love playing the works of the Romantic Composers Schumann, Chopin, Schubert and Brahms. John Williams' soundtracks were also a strong influence on my primordial Musicality. In addition to Classical, I appreciate Jazz, Latin, Rock, Video Game Music, and Scott Joplin
.

As Pianist, my previous work includes accompaniment for singers of German Lieder, Italian Opera, Art Songs as well as choral concerts. I have authored dozens of original compositions, including 2 Sonatas for Piano, many Fugues, and a Sacred work for Chorus.

As a teacher of music (violin, voice, and choral) and a Classical singer, and colleague of Brent, I think the most important aspect of teaching is to take a personal approach with each student to see what "fits." Every student learns differently, and Brent recognizes that. He puts a tremendous amount of thought and creativity into the development of his students. Too many teachers today have a "cookie cutter" approach to teaching, and in my own experience, this turns students away from working on music later in their lives. Brent has the opposite approach, he is committed to developing the skills and love for Classical music simultaneously in the student, which has a more long-lasting affect on their schoolwork, concentration, character, and social life.

Without reservation, recommend Brent as an enthusiastic and thoughtful instructor-mentor to those seeking to actually enjoy the experience of mastering music and piano in particular.
As an observer, I'm impressed with Brent's teaching method, and ability to rekindle in young adults the interest and enthusiasm they may have experienced in former times for playing music at the piano.
As a sensitive and proficient accompanist, Brent works patiently and conscientiously with the singer; putting one at ease, even performing the most challenging works of classical composers.

Ms. Lee is the best instructor ever!!!! When I started taking lessons with her, I was blown away by how much progress we made in one short lesson! She helped me grow so much! She is everything you would see in a perfect teacher: Kind, compassionate, knowledgable, and has the most amazing personality! She knows exactly what to do for every piece of music that I learn, and teaches me new techniques in every lesson that I carry on to every ensemble I participate in! Going off to my university next year, I am sad that I cannot have lessons with her when I leave. But I know that she was the one who got me there, who prepared me for college level of music at a university ranked number one in the nation for orchestral music. Hello future students! I've been playing violin for 20 of my 25 years of age and teaching for 8 years. I believe that the most important part of learning the violin is having fun and building a passion for music.

In my lessons we will focus on proper violin technique, music theory and practical application. In practical application, the student chooses what he/she would like to work on, whether it be Mozart or The Chainsmokers or the Moana score, and we learn it together!

I am also proficient in music production/engineering which means that my students can professionally record themselves in my home studio! I also make viral violin videos which I want to start including my students in.

If this sounds like fun to you - let's get started! :)

Eric tutored me throughout the 2016-2017 school year in AP Chemistry. Throughout the year I played competitive volleyball and Eric was always very flexible with scheduling and making sure he could fit me in- even if it was last minute.

I could tell that Eric generally cared about how well I understood each piece of material. No matter how long it took for me to understand he never gave up on me; if one explanation didn't make sense to me, then he would reinterpret it another way. Even during times throughout the school year when I was just so over chemistry, he pushed me and he kept me on track.

The impact that Eric had on me was incredible and I highly recommend his services. Without Eric's help, I know that I would not have been able to receive an A in this class or be able to manage all of my activities.

I learned more about the subject of chemistry then I ever wanted too.... AND I ended up passing the AP exam! Thank YOU Eric!
