About Glenn
Hi, I'm Glenn. Thank you for viewing my profile. I've been teaching students for over 20 years, playing all styles and levels of music, from day-one beginners to seasoned pros seeking to sharpen their playing skills. I teach both traditional notation and tablature, writing my own teaching methods in both formats. I can transcribe any song or solo for you, and can arrange the music to fit your particular level of skill.

I earned a B.A. in Music Composition and an A.A. in music theory, and have worked as a professional musician since graduation. I play in a variety of bands that cover rock, jazz, surf, oldies, and country, and also write and arrange music for those bands as well as writing my own music that can be heard on my own YouTube channel.

The first song I learned to play was "Pipeline." I own and play several acoustic an
d electric guitars, as well as ukuleles, mandolins, bass guitars, and lap steel guitars. I'm personable and patient, and my lessons include songs, techniques, and instruction for improving your musical skills. I look forward to meeting you and having fun learning and playing music together.

-Glenn

Glenn is very patient and has a great sense of humor. Even though I only had a 30 minute beginner class with him, he gave me plenty direction and encouragement to start. With his lesson plan, practice exercises and his guidance, I feel confident that I have the tools to master my instrument.

About Howon
Formerly in the field of international studies and marketing as an active professional, Howon resumed her music study with Dr. Heewon Kwon at Colburn School of Performing Arts and received first place at Sonata/Sonatina Competition of CAPMT in 2004.
Her formal music education in piano as a major started at the age of 16 when she entered Seoul Arts High School in Korea, followed by study at Seoul National University. Admission to master program at USC led her to redirect her career from marketing to music.
Currently she teaches in southern California as a member of MTAC.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a classically trained pianist myself, I help my students with classical approach for their piano lessons as well.
However, when I start working with new students, I start from where they are by trying to continue their previously follow
ed methods and repertoire, regardless of musical genre.
Lesson time will be shared for theory upon students request especially when students are pursuing CM certificate, but, even for non-CM students, I normally plan to advance one level up per year in terms of proficiency.
In short term, I focus on helping students to master the repertoire they are working on, but
I will suggest pieces that can be a little challenging after they master current ones.
Bilingual in Korean and English, I'll be comfortably communicating with Korean-speaking parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students having a digital piano, upright or grand piano for daily practice.
Eligible parking space must be provided to teacher.

*** Specialties ***
Classical music, use modern method such as Alfred or Piano Adventure for beginner to intermediate classical training.
Provide repertoires from intermediate to advance level.
Strong ability to help students for music theory up to advanced level.
CM and SYMF certified.

About Moa
Short version:
I sing my heart out. I slam the guitar. I turn my feelings into songs. I help other people make music.
Lover of the beach.
Swedish native in California.

Long version:
My story began in my neighbors’ backyard in the deep woods of southern Sweden where we would lip sync to Spice Girls in the late 90s. I would kick my foot in the air, as the true Sporty Spice I was. Or was trying to be.

A few years later, when I was 12, I discovered a worn out, leather hard case covered with stickers laying around in my house. I opened it and discovered this big chunk of wood with four strings on it.
Disappointment arose when I tried strumming it and it didn’t really make any noise. However, turned out we had a similar looking thing at my school and my teacher showed me how to plug it in to a speaker. Noise: check. Since then
I told everyone that I was gonna be a rockstar when I grow up.

I spent my teenage years playing in bands and eventually moved on to the guitar. I played actively all over Sweden but told everyone that I was gonna move to LA to further my career. And in 2012 that dream became reality.

Since then I’ve been fortunate enough in this rollercoaster called the music industry/life to combine my two biggest passions in life, music and traveling, and have toured all over the US, the UK, played Warped Tour, US Air Force Bases in the Middle East and Japan and even cruise ships in the Caribbean (my favorite place on earth), all with several different bands. Somewhere along the way I also started passing on my knowledge and coaching music, with a contemporary pop/rock approach and focus on getting more girls into music.

When I’m not performing or teaching, I write music for film and television. You can hear me on the latest season of Vanderpump Rules on Bravo.

I am looking forward to working with you! :)

About Shannon
I hold a master's in voice from CSUF and a double bachelor's in piano and voice from USC. With over 13 years of experience as a private voice and piano instructor I have had the privilege of helping many students achieve their musical goals. As a member of MTAC and NATS, I enter many students in Certificate of Merit, Student Evaluation Program, and other festivals. For pianists, I work on songs, scales, theory, ear training and sometimes improvisation. For singers, we work on a breath-based breathing technique and songs that reinforce good singing habits but that are also engaging for the singer. We also work on sight singing and theory.Though my training is mostly in classical music, I do work on other styles with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
For pianists, I recommend the Premier Alfred piano course, or for older beginners/ad
ults, we use Adult Piano Adventures. I also recommend purchasing a scale/technique book and a theory book.

For singers, please bring a recording device (phone is ok) so that you may later practice the exercises which we learn in the lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a Baldwin grand piano as well as an electronic piano in my studio. For budding pianists, I offer instruction with Piano Marvel software.

About Kevin
I'm a full-time musician, recording artist, and studio drummer who has been studying and playing for over 17 years.

I played in the UCLA jazz and latin jazz programs, as well as in the UCLA marching band. Since then I've been a part of a group called Sure Sure. I write, record, and perform live all of our drum and percussion parts; we currently have 140,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

I like to tailor your lesson to whatever your goals are. I can teach you rudiments, we can learn one of your favorite songs, or I can show you exercises to improve your skill. I'm happy to talk about your drumming goals and then create a lesson plan to help you get there.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Kevin has been teaching my daughter Ellie for 9 months now. I found him through an old UCLA friend who's also part of the music scene here in LA. Ellie started as a percussionist in her middle school concert band and used to bang around on the set after rehearsals, but now that she's in 7th grade she decided to join the jazz ensemble. So we wanted to get her proper training on the drum kit. She always looks forward to her sessions with Kevin (we try to fit in a weekly session around club soccer and chess - yes, I'm breeding a Renaissance Woman), and she has seen astronomical growth in her abilities since she started with him last summer. As a musician myself, I can tell you that Kevin is a consummate drummer (check out his band Sure Sure!!) and teacher, not to mention a responsible (and hilarious) young man. He really emphasizes control and syncopation with Ellie, and her band teacher has been super impressed with her growing talents. Rumor has it she's even getting a drum solo at the spring concert...

Michael is, hands down, one of the best teachers that I've ever had in my life (not just in guitar...and I've had a lot of teachers in undergrad and multiple grad schools lol.)

I came into my first lesson pretty convinced that guitar would be next to impossible to learn, but Michael was so off-the-charts positive and brimming with enthusiasm each lesson that I soon became super excited about learning. Michael is so wickedly smart and his knowledge base is so deep, that he's basically giving PhD level instructions tailored to rank beginners as myself.

It's also really cool that he's able to spot all my subconscious nuances and areas for improvement and then create mini-exercises to help me become aware of them and correct them. I've been able to progress from learning simple pieces to now memorizing page-long pieces.

Long music piece short: Best guitar teacher in LA!

While I have studied with other music teachers in the past, Michael is truly one of a kind. Not only is he extremely talented, but he also does a great job of translating his own expertise and passion for guitar to his students. He knows how to help students pinpoint our weak spots and improve them both musically and technically. Taking lessons with Michael makes the time fly by as he is incredibly nice, welcoming, easy to be around, and most importantly a wonderful instructor. I am very lucky to have worked with him.

While I had played classical guitar when I was younger, I hadn't played for over 6 years when I took Michael's class -- however, in one semester, I went from not knowing where each note placed on the fret to comfortably being able to play the carcassi etudes, ending with etude No. 7. Michael was patient and yet pushed me to practice more and strive harder every week -- and it paid off in the most rewarding way. I cannot recommend him enough.

About Tuesday
I am a pianist and teacher from Southern California who received a Bachelor's Degree in music with a concentration in piano performance in the year 2013. I am receiving my Master's degree in piano performance in the fall of 2017 from California State University Long Beach. I have finished my graduate recital, which is a requirement for all graduate students who desire to pursue music and complete their degree. The majority of repertoire that I studied in college consists of works by composers J.S. Bach, Frederic Chopin, L.V. Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Ravel, W.A. Mozart, and other renowned classical composers. I also have experience performing popular music, and music from broadway musicals.

I have been teaching for five years and have found that the most important component of learning music and performing with success is the disciplin
e of steady practice. Every student is required to practice on a regular basis, and young students will receive a small reward each week if their skills improve through steady practice. Young students who work diligently will also be entered into an occasional raffle for various prizes. Through steady practice and a desire to learn, I will teach you the foundations of music: rhythm, note-reading, technique, music theory, ear training, artistry, and interpretation. Artistry and interpretation are less understood, but both extend beyond learning the notes on the page, by using technique to express unique, emotional, and beautiful sounds through the piano.

I teach classical and popular music, and will assist you in learning to sing and play at the piano if you already enjoy singing. When teaching beginners, I use a curriculum that fits the need of the student. The studies that I favor to use for beginners include (but are not limited to) Bastien, Alfred, Faber, and Snell. For intermediate and advanced students, I allow students to pick some of their repertoire, and also focus their attention toward classical music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary periods of music. Learning classical music will not only broaden the student's knowledge of music and history, but it will additionally set a foundation for a student who desires to study music at a university.

I have extensive experience as a professional musician touring the country and as a professional educator in both public & private sectors. I play multiple instruments (woodwind, brass, percussion, string) as well as write songs and compose music. This allows me the ability to uniquely address points of interest from multiple angles.

Every student has unique capabilities and experiences, so I try to create the learning environment which best suits their needs.

Developing good tone and practice techniques are high priorities. Understanding and motivation are fundamental in each musician's progress and I think it very important to like what you play, to have fun.

Grade and age appropriate music materials are key to successful performance and development. I think everyone should learn to play music, especially at a young age where it
can play a significant role in a child's education. But even adults see lasting benefits of music, so if you missed music education opportunities in your youth it's never too late.
