About Joseph
I have been playing music for over 25 years and teaching for nearly 20 years. I have been a successful part of Rock Bands, Jazz Bands, Blues Bands, Marching Bands, etc. So, whatever style of music you are interested in or wanting to learn, I can help!

I am currently a working musician with multiple groups in Southern California as well as a working Studio session musician. This helps bring a lot of up to date and "real life" knowledge and skills to every lesson.

On top of that, I have spent the past 10+ years honing my skills for Training, Coaching, and Developing. So, I can promise two things. You will get results and you will have FUN!

I will design your lessons around you and your goals......not mine!

*** Lesson Details ***
Ultimately, my goal is to make sure you enjoy yourself and want to keep coming back. In t
hat process I will make sure you get results.

I am laid back and very patient. Two qualities I feel are necessary to be successful in this field.

I design my curriculum for each individual. This is because everyone has their own goals, there own level of ability, and their own needs as far as how to get there.

Locations:
1) If you are located in Orange County, all lessons will be at my studio in Santa Ana.

2.) If you are located in the Southbay or West LA, I will come to your house for lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Drumsets, PA system. Amps, Guitars, and Keyboards.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have acoustic guitars, a practice pad, and a djembe. I expect my students to have their own drumsticks and, ideally, their own guitar and practice pad or drumset.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in rock/contemporary & marching band style percussion/drums. I also specialize in folk style guitar and bass.

About Sophia
On top of being a professional musician and educator, I am a fun, easy-going, and inspirational person. I love helping people learn music, and I feel so inspired and humbled when I see students grow and progress in music over time. I emphasize achieving the student’s long-term goals, while always making sure the lessons are a pleasant and fun experience!

This excerpt is taken from Sophia's website:

Sophia is an uprising pianist, composer, film composer, educator and bandleader based in Los Angeles California, specializing in a diverse musical style and eclectic range of repertoire that combines the colors of jazz, classical, orchestral and contemporary music. In her latest upcoming project, her ensemble features a punchy rhythm section and a melodic horn section that delivers a raw and compelling sound which invites listeners
of all audiences to groove to and connect with on a deeper and instinctual level.

She has performed at major venues such as the Valley Performing Arts Center, where she conducted a full orchestra for the premiere of her orchestral piece “A Path Unfolds,” and sang with the CSUN Jazz A Band. She has also performed at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, the Colts Stadium in Indianapolis, the Alamodome, the Georgia Dome, the Hall of Liberty and at Los Angeles Community College where she premiered her latest piece “Emerge” with a jazz combo, which featured legendary drummer Gene Coye, and a six-piece horn section.

Active as a collaborative artist, Sophia performs as a pianist with different ensembles professionally, including the Westlake Village Symphony Orchestra, and the New Valley Symphony Orchestra. In 2014 she was a featured soloist and won the Fred Sanford Gold Medal in Percussion with the world famous Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, and was a featured soloist in the Winter Drumline group POW Percussion.

While mastering her craft in classical music, jazz, film scoring and composing original music, Ms. Sophia is going to graduate from Cal State Northridge with a Bachelor’s of Music in Media Compostion this May 2018. She is a recognized student at Cal State Northridge and received the Igor Paltsev Memorial Composition Scholarship in 2015 for three of her original works entitled Forward Motion, Drifting, and Contemplation. Since then she has been studying with the phenomenal jazz pianists Matt Harris, and Gary Fukishima, and the renown Dr. Elizabeth Sellers, who is the head and founder of the Film and Commercial Writing department.

Sophia has been playing the piano since the age of three, and acquired her Grade 8 Certificate in Piano from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) when she was 14.  Upon graduating high school, she was awarded the United States Marine Corps “Semper Fidelis” Award for Music Excellence, and under the instruction of acclaimed pianist Lou Touman, she auditioned and was accepted as a Piano Performance major at CSUN, at that time studying with the world renowned pianist and CSUN faculty member, Dr. Salas.

While currently working on composing for her ensemble which she is the pianist for, performing with several groups professionally, securing an internship, and teaching lessons, she says that being so involved with Music "is only possible because I am passionate about everything about Music, and I plan to be a part of Music and share this fondness with others for the rest of my life."

Sophia is absolutely the best piano teacher ever! She's punctual, kind, and patient. She genuinely cares that I understand not just how to play the piano, but also the theoretical apparatus behind the music that I'm learning to play. I will take lessons from her until I'm taking a dirt nap.

As an adult trying to get back into playing piano it was hard for me to find the right fit with a piano teacher. Sophia displays a perfect balance of encouragement, intelligence, and professionalism in our lessons. Her hours are flexible, and she has so much to offer and talk about with whatever is I want to learn. Thank you Sophia!

Sophia was so kind and helpful. I wanted to get my 7 year old Josh involved in music and figured piano would be a good instrument to learn the basics on, especially since I already have a keyboard at home. Sophia arrived for his first lesson on time and was very polite. I sat in on the lesson and Josh was comfortable for usually being shy around girls. Sophia introduced him to basic technique and showed him some of the cool things a pianist can do. She even asked him what he liked to listen to and what he would want to play in the future, giving him a personal reason to practice. I hope he continues as long time and Sophia definitely makes that seem like a possibility. I cannot recommend her enough!!

About Jason
Hey folks, Ive been slamming my drums for about 20 years, I have a fun exciting approach to teaching. Sometimes it can be boring to get bogged down with rudiments and classic drum lesson material, Im not that kind of teacher. I have a back round in psychology as well as music, and I understand the importance making any subject exciting to the audience. So heres my approach laid out below in a few easy steps.

1. Ask you what music you love, and what are some songs you want to learn how to play.
2. While helping you to rock out to your favorite songs, like a pro, I will be assessing certain chops you need to work on.
3. Slowly work in some basic drum rudiment work, to help you play the songs you love even better, and add in some of your own flare.
4. Eventually have you perform one of your songs live in front of friends and family, if yo
u feel up to it.
5. Continue to build your skills in an organic, fun, engaging , performance goal focused teaching method that I truly believe in.

Heres some of my credentials:
1. Trained at the Drummers Collective in NYC in 2002, specifically with Memo Acevedo, and Sandy Gennaro.
2. Was signed to Universal Music/ Gotham Records in 2006 with the band Chiba Ken.
3. Toured the country , released original music that was licensed to Television, and Movies.
4. Continued on to do sessions work for various artists, mostly in the heavy metal genre.

Drumming has been my life for a long time, and Im very passionate about the process of development that occurs when taking on a challenge like learning drums. I will make this lots of fun, we will laugh a lot, we will rock out to your favorite music, while also developing important skills for music and for life. Thanks for reading this far, you are already showing your commitment.

Keyboardist for legendary rock band The Who and Roger Daltrey since since 2009. As a professional musician and teacher for over 20 years, I know how to make lessons fun and productive. I have two instructional books published through Alfred Music; Sitting In: Rock Piano and Sitting In; Blues Piano.

Performing in front of tens of thousands of people night after night, I have learned many things along the way. I have also performed with Kenny Loggins, Don Felder, Taylor Hicks, among many others. As Musical Director, I have instructed musicians, built bands, and developed artists such as Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Hilary Duff, and American Idol winner Taylor Hicks.

I will teach you any popular or classic rock song of your choosing (Elton John, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, etc), and show you small little nuances that you
can apply, making a world of difference in the sound of the performance - i.e. subtle expressions the artists play on the recording, which are not notated in the sheet music.
