I have been a public school music teacher for 30+ years. I am an optimistic, enthusiastic person, who will help you learn music reading in addition to music playing. I started on piano as a young child, and studied clarinet from elementary school through college, where I focused on french horn. I have a BA in Music Education from Humboldt State University, where I also earned my teaching credential. I have taught beginning, intermediate and advanced band and orchestra, in addition to choir and jazz band. I have been music director for over 10 middle school musicals. In my spare time I enjoy my two dogs, going horseback riding, and reading. *** Lesson Details *** I am very friendly, and encouraging to new students. I have a lot of patience for those who are new to the study of music. I can also be more demanding for those who have learned the basics and want to improve their playing. I am a proponent of teaching the basics of music reading and common musical terms. I can teach music through a variety of curricula, and will work with my students to choose a method that best suits their goals. I have a large music studio in my home that has a separate entrance, which is conducive to music making (with it's own bathroom). I accept students 8 years of age and older. *** Studio Equipment *** Has a keyboard, but no drum set *** Travel Equipment *** I prefer to teach in my home studio. *** Specialties *** I have been teaching band, orchestra & choir in public schools for 30+ years.

I have been teaching children and adults in bay area to play the violin for years. My violin lesson has helped not only young and adult students to develop a hobby but also school-age students to succeed in their school or county orchestra. I can teach in both English and Mandarin. For more information, please leave an online message. I am looking forward to working with you:) Background: I have passed the highest ABRSM exam and the violin performance assessment in China. I have got a lot of performance experiences as a first violin in the student orchestra of the city for years. I am experienced in helping students prepare for their orchestra audition as well as guiding them to improve their orchestra performance. In my class, students' "needs" and "wants" are prioritized. It helps students achieve their goals while combined with students' "lacks" in lesson planning. Whether you want to develop a hobby or to seek a more professional goal in violin performance, you will find something helpful here in my class. You will learn rhythms, melody, harmony, dynamics etc with me, and we will also have a chance to dig deep into the functions and principals of various performing techniques on a step-by-step learning progress. I will introduce a most-fit teaching material to you, with a lot of supplementary sheet music also provided in order to bring more fun and/or enhance your performance techniques. I will also make a customized teaching plan for each student according to your performance level.

I love teaching strings. Violin is my main instrument. I focus heavily on bow technique. I have gotten students into youth orchestras and passed college auditions. I like to use the Essential Elements and Suzuki books. I also offer online group lessons at a highly discounted price. I suggest that all my students join. This is a great option for kids while class is out.

Violin is a complex art, one that takes many years to develop, but can be one of the most rewarding experiences in your life. Despite its challenges, love for the violin and music should never take a back seat in a lesson, That is what I will focus on. Nevertheless, there are methods and techniques crucial to violin playing that I will also keep at the forefront. At the end of the day, students have their own unique voice that I will try to nurture while at the same time teach them the fundamental tools to achieve it. Whether just starting out or already playing for many years, I will strive to do what is best for the student. To all of you, I wish you best of luck with violin and hope you can join me in making music!

Having taught and performed for over 30 years, I have had the pleasure of working with students of all levels and ages. For beginning students, you can expect to be playing and learning to read music within your first month of taking lessons. I am happy to say that my intermediate and advanced students have met goals of preparing for auditions with success, performance events, and simply studying new technique and repertoire for their own pleasure. I look forward to meeting and sharing your musical endeavors!
