Bo Wade was my first percussion teacher over 10 years ago. A friend I played guitar with invited me to a Samba dance class set to live percussion. Bo was in charge of the percussion section, orchestrating both the drummers and dancers from behind his drum set. Bo is an elite musician and instructor with a broad understanding of percussion styles from around the globe. Whatever your experience level, focus, or preference of music, Bo will add value to your practice techniques and performance approach. I highly recommend taking lessons and developing a relationship with Bo.
Alexis Trout
Bo was great with teaching our son rudiments, grooves, Latin Jazz beats and much more. He also taught our son how to play live in a large theater setting for musicals. He was always organized and on time, which we appreciated. Jackson learned a lot from Bo and is now in his 3rd year at Juilliard Pre-College for percussion in NYC. Thanks so much, Bo! We'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Anthony
Fine teacher and top-quality musician with incredible depth of experience.

My experience as a performer and teacher spans over 25 years of every musical style. I believe in creating an environment that is focused on playing music well and where the student can have fun while gaining confidence. It is important to develop functional musicians with good technique, time, and listening skills. We will cover all styles of conga/bongo music from Latin, Afro-Cuban, and rock/pop, including jazz, and other percussion as desired.

About Mariano

My experience as a performer and teacher ranges from early music to today's rock and pop, including various percussion instruments from around the world. When studying for my bachelors and masters degrees in music, I did course work in music recording, jazz studies, and music history. In addition,

Mariano is excellent! He is firm yet patient and professional, and gets along really well with my son.
Emma
Mariano was an amazing percussion and drum set teacher. His lessons were engaging and productive, and he was always able to communicate an idea or musical concept in a way that I was able to understand and connect with. After about 2 years of lessons I was accepted into the Orange County School of the Arts for percussion and I owe my success to the lessons I took with Mariano. I continued lessening throughout high school and my skill level contined to grow. What I loved about Mariano's teaching was his unique ability to take very simple exercises and make them more difficult and therefore much more beneficial. Along with stressing the importance of basic technique, he would constantly inteoduce me to new things - Afro beats, traditional grip, Latin beats, new ways to sight read, and 4 mallet marimba technique. I would highly suggest taking lessons with Mariano if you are looking for a fun, encouraging teacher who has lots of experience with a variety of percussion performance!

I am a well-rounded drum teacher, meaning I have learned and studied genres ranging from blues, jazz, rock and indie rock. I will give you tons of music to listen to and interpret and teach you how to learn tunes by ear. You will understand the forms of jazz tunes such as aaba Aba and abc. You will learn how to play the tunes you listen to and take the concepts of drum beats and drum rudiments used within them o make them your own and use them in your original playing. I also teach how to read standard drum notation, and can teach you how time signatures work and the values of notes if you don’t already know.

About Eli

Hi future students! I’m Eli. I know how tough it is to teach yourself an instrument, because I struggled with it for years and years. One of my biggest issues was learning how to practice, so if that’s something you struggle with, I can certainly help you develop a routine to which you would follow

After his first session, my son (10 years old) said Eli was, "really nice." They reviewed a lot, Eli asked a lot of questions about previous experiences and and listened to him play. Sounds like it was a packed session but not overwhelming.

Bongos:
Are an Afro-Cuban percussion instrument consisting of a pair of small open bottomed drums of different sizes. Together with the conga or tumbadora, and to a lesser extent the batá drum, bongos are the most widespread Cuban hand drums, being commonly played in genres such as Cuban son, salsa and Afro-Cuban jazz.
In class we will be focusing on different hand techniques, placement
and rhythms. Starting with the basics, from the first class we will begin to use these techniques to play along with songs.

Karen is an incredibly skillful teacher. She is very passionate about music and it easy to be comfortable with her. She shares her training and knowledge very clearly. The vocal exercises seem very unique and holistic for body and voice health. She is very encouraging, caring, and soul-uplifting. I feel like I have a new connection with my voice and all that is connected to using it... as an instrument and the journey is only just starting. 45 minutes went by so fast. I am looking forward to my next lessons.

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

Mark rocks!

Mark’s incredible skill as a drummer is only matched by his abilities as a teacher. In just a short time with Mark’s instruction, I have made vast improvements in my drumming. At my first lesson with Mark, he determined my skill level and what I sought to achieve with my lessons. Almost immediately, the fundamentals Mark showed me were translating into my drumming with my band. Mark has opened doors in my playing that I didn’t know existed. Mark is incredibly patient and really cares about ensuring I receive significant benefit from my lessons. Mark really goes out of his way to make sure I fully grasp everything he shows me. I would highly recommend Mark for anyone who wants to learn from a true master at his craft and from a teacher who takes pride in his students and his teaching. Thank you Mark!!

Mark Review

I have had many different types of music teachers through out my life and Mark is by far the best. He is very serious about helping his students do what they want to do. I had specific goals I wanted to accomplish. Mark took my goals seriously and did what he could to help me understand the techniques to be a good drummer. He broke things down in to little steps that helped me to practice on my own and figure specific drum patterns out, He gave me the tools to improve myself as a musician, Mark did not have to but he chose to put a lot of his own time in to teaching me what I wanted to learn He obviously cares about his students and takes them seriously. I highly recommend him to any future students
