I've been teaching beginning flute for over 30 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to assemble your instrument, make a sound on the head joint, and know where your fingers go. As time goes on you'll be able to read music and play simple songs. Any beginning flute book will get us started. In addition to your flute and book, you will also need a cleaning swab. As you progress, a a metronome may be helpful. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

My son has loved taking lessons with Linda. She is setting just the right pace with him. She is flexible given his strengths and weaknesses. He was genuinely disappointed when I told him he couldn't go to lessons this week because of a family commitment. Can't recommend highly enough!

Linda was great! As an adult beginner with the cello she made the lesson enjoyable and easy to follow. She adjusted quickly for where I knew a little and where I knew nothing. Highly recommend her!

I believe in teaching strong fundamentals so that we can have a solid foundation to build on. Good tone and an understanding of embouchure are most important, and we will develop technique. I enjoy helping students achieve their goals and develop their talents.

Victoria is a fantastic teacher. I am an adult who picked up the flute some years ago. This year I decided to be disciplined and seek out a teacher. I started to see a difference in my ability immediately. After around 6 months I can say that I am further along than I ever thought I would be. She's respectful and a lot of fun. Sign up and go see her already!!

With my 15 years of experience and a Bachelor's and Master's degree in flute performance, you can expect lessons from me to be the highest quality. I have years of experience teaching dozens of flutists of all ages, and I make sure to adjust my teaching to the needs of each individual student. Everybody is different, so I want to make sure students get the most out of their experience! Young beginners will begin in methods such as Patricia George's "Flute 101" series or Kathleen Blocki's flute method series, while intermediate and advanced players will have a more comprehensive approach with studies in tone development, technique enhancement, etudes, and solo repertoire.

About Drew

As a recent recipient of a Master's Degree in Flute Performance from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music, Drew Powell is a promising young flutist and highly sought after flute teacher. In the few months that I've had flute lessons with Drew, I've grown so much. As a beginner in flute, I was completely scared and overwhelmed with taking band for the first time. Knowing I needed lessons, I'm so glad that I was paired with Drew. On my first lesson, Drew asked me what my goals were and I told him that it was to just simply read the notes on the page. That's all I expected to learn from him, but he taught me so much more! Drew taught me about musical expression, tone and all the little details behind flute playing. His teachings challenged and motivated me. My peers and band teacher have noticed my improvement and progress. Thanks to Drew, I can now play with confidence and poise. -Emma

My philosophy is simple: The true joy of music comes from learning together and sharing with each other. When we find enjoyment in the process, the outcome is so much sweeter!

What does this mean? It means that the underlying theme in our lessons will be finding the joy in the act of learning. Performing is a wonderful side effect of being a musician, but musicians are so much more than performers. Become a lifelong learner and everything else will fall into place.

About Evan

Lots of private teachers are performers first, who take on the role of teacher to make ends meet. When you work with someone like me who is a teacher first, you get a much more rounded perspective. I have over 20 years of teaching students from all different backgrounds on all different instrumen

"Tony is a great instructor for serious students of clarinet, flute or saxophone. My daughter started with him as a regular 8th grade flute player - not bad, but not great either. Over the course of three years, she has progressed to the point where she made regionals as a sophomore and junior (1st chair orchestra as a junior), and also made all-state as a junior.

My daughter needs a patient and consistent type of teacher, and after a couple of months, Tony and Natalia were working together quite well, as her progress has shown. Of course, Natalia put in the the practice time as well, as she is not quite a musical prodigy, so she has had to work. Tony has supported her all along and been flexible with lessons and time as needed for upcoming events.

My son took saxophone lessons for the last 3 years as well. While quite talented, he doesn't like to work and focus on his music, so he only just almost regional 3 years in a row. That's not really Tony's fault, as he tried to show my son how to get the most out of his practice time, but regardless of talent, music takes work.

I'd gladly give Tony 5 stars for clarinet, as that is his principal instrument, and he is a great clarinetist, but my kids took flute and saxophone from him, which are instruments he doubles on professionally. However, Tony is an honest person, and he would let you know when the time comes for a change to a higher level professional on the secondary instruments. Most students will not ever get there, although it could happen for students planning to make a profession of musical performance."

"I was fortunate enough to have Jeremy as an instructor in my first year of high school. He helped tremendously with my tone and with my understanding of the flute itself by helping me with harmonics. He provided new warm ups and exercises designed to help me improve in areas in which I was lacking. In time, I went on to be first chair on my high school's marching band and wind ensemble. Years later, I still have notes and exercises from our lessons and use them when I practise. Not only do I recommend Jeremy for the excellent job he does as a flute instructor, but also because he's friendly, great to be around, and really makes you look forward to the next lesson."
