I teach Rock, jazz, reading and improving! Electric and Acoustic. I lay along with my students and make sure they have fun!

About Mike
I have taught private guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons since the late 70s in Salt Lake City, where I majored in jazz guitar performance, and since 1980 in Los Angeles. I make the lessons fun. Some of my students have received college scholarships and won cash prizes for music contests. All of them had fun while learning and improving on their instruments.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very enthusiastic and can teach students how to read. If they do not want to read music, they can learn to play by ear. I can also show them where to put their fingers. During piano lessons, I often accompany students on guitar and suggest a scale for improvisation, so they can play the blues. During drum lessons, I often play bass so they can learn to groove.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They should have their own instrument and a music stand.

*** Spec
ialties ***
I specialize in jazz improvisation on piano and guitar.
I also teach recreational guitar and piano for adults, including classical and blues styles.
I coach bass players and drummers in playing stylistically correct grooves for jazz, rock and latin music.

Excellent lesson. Only 30 minutes but by the end I was playing simple improvisations (on the piano) over a blues-pattern bass. I didn't believe I had it in me ("improvisation") but he definitely brought it out! He accompanied me on his guitar and we alternated playing the melody\bass on the piano\guitar several times. Quite a trip and I enjoyed it. Looking forward to my next lesson.

Mike is awesome. He taught my daughter piano, guitar, and ukelele. He's very supportive and encouraging, yet he also is quick to correct mistakes.

Mike makes learning music so much fun. My daughter enjoyed the lessons and enjoyed the pieces he taught her. She is now pretty good at improv as well.

I actually took guitar lessons from Mike too, and I learned so much in a very short time.

When Mike is giving lessons, there's no time wasted. My daughter was always playing something during the lesson.

So Mike's enthusiasm for music is infectious. The kids will enjoy him, the lesson, and the music.

Thanks, Mike!

Brian has been teaching guitar to students of all ages in the Los Angeles area for more than 20 years. With a broad range of musical skills and performing experience that include Rock, Jazz, Blues and Folk music, Brian brings his boundless enthusiasm and love of the guitar into the studio with each of his students, who learn an approach to learning music that includes technique, music theory, performance as well the skill to sing and play. Students of all ages are welcome!

Brian's teaching philosophy, in his own words:

MY APPROACH:
I focus on four areas that I think are essential to being a good music teacher:

* the uniqueness of each student;
* the fact that enjoyment (fun!) maximizes learning;
* the importance of proper technique and an understanding of music theory to build self-confidence;
* the development of musicianship through performance.

About Brian
Brian discovered his talent and passion for teaching while still in college, and has been teaching guitar and piano in Southern California for over 20 years. Gifted at teaching students of all ages and abilities, he combines patience, creativity, imagination and boundless enthusiasm with solid professional training and experience. Brian also has over 10 years experience teaching piano and guitar to blind and autistic students.

A lifelong musician, Brian received his first musical training at the age of 4 and 5 years when his actor/singer Dad and musically talented Grandma taught him to sing and play the mandolin. He began piano lessons at age 5, and formal guitar instruction at the age of 10 years.

By the time he was a 14-year-old high school student, Brian was performing as lead guitarist in rock bands around Southern California
, developing mastery of rock guitar and blues performance and improvisation. Brian went on to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from California State University, Los Angeles.

Passionate about all kinds of music, Brian's studies include choral music and conducting, Gregorian chant (at the Monastery of St. Pierre de Solesmes, France), and Master Classes with Andrés Segovia and Christopher Parkening. In 1984, he participated as a member of the Honor Choir for the ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which included recording of original music by Philip Glass for the Olympic Games under the direction of David L. Wolper and Mr. Glass.

As a jazz guitarist, Brian continues to grow musically in association with his colleagues of the Naomi Jazz Group, and other close musical friends who include students of the late, great Ted Greene.

MY APPROACH:
I focus on four areas that I think are essential to being a good music teacher:

• the uniqueness of each student;
• the fact that enjoyment (fun!) maximizes learning;
• the importance of proper technique and an understanding of music theory to build self-confidence;
• the development of musicianship through performance.

EACH STUDENT IS UNIQUE:
My first interest with each new student is to discover how he or she learns, and then to apply appropriate teaching techniques to maximize their potential. I gear my lesson plans to the individual and strive to optimize the learning potential of the student.

ENJOYMENT MAXIMIZES LEARNING:
In a lesson with me you can expect to never be bored, to laugh a lot, learn a lot, be positively engaged emotionally and challenged intellectually. I believe that learning is maximized when the student is enjoying the experience, and is faced with challenges appropriate to their skill level. I aim to make learning music fun, choosing musical selections to learn in the style and genre that relate to the student's interests and aspiration.

TECHNIQUE & UNDERSTANDING OF MUSIC THEORY TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE:
When my students perform in concerts, recitals, juries, auditions, recording sessions or simply for friends and family, they have self-confidence because they know precisely the "how" and "why" of everything required to perform well. My goal with students is to build a solid foundation in instrumental technique and thorough understanding of Music Theory at their appropriate level.

PERFORMANCE:
On a monthly basis, all my students practice performing pieces they are working on during the lesson time, with family/friends as an audience if desired and appropriate, and/or using digital recording to help the student develop a critical ear for their own playing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music stands, guitar/s and guitar stands, Dynarelle cushion, footrests, Korg 88 fully--weighted digital keyboard, Zoom H4 digital recorder.

As well, I have guitars and equipment both for teaching and performance of various styles, as below. Students will have the opportunity to learn about, play and become familiar with any of these instruments/equipment according to their interests and skill levels.

GUITARS:

CLASSICAL: Ramirez Model 1A Classical (professional concert level instrument)
Cordoba (teaching/practice instrument)
Hohner Acoustic (electric)

ROCK: Fender Stratocaster (pre-CBS)
Shechter Omen6
Shechter Elite Series C1

FOLK: Martin (steel string)
Dobro

JAZZ: Oscar Schmidt by Washburn (hollow body electric)
Gibson SG (electric)

OTHER EQUIPMENT:

AMPS: Fender Twin reverb
Pevey practice amp
Rock amp

Boss GT8 Effects Pedal

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar stands, guitar/s, Zoom H4 digital recorder. Generally I do not transport my Korg 88 keyboard to the student's home for lessons, but I can if necessary. However, I do require that piano students have their own piano/keyboard or at least reliable access to one for practice between lessons.

Guitar students should also have their own guitar. I can advise on appropriate instruments and can help students find a suitable guitar for their learning level and price range.

I have approximately taken ten or twelve lessons. I started from scratch, and Brian's input and guidance has helped me to move along pretty fast in my learning. My ear is becoming more selective. My fingers are more and more flexible. My idea of learning piano was to do so, in order to play for me and maybe one or two more people. I've learned with Brian that even if that is the case, I must still handle myself, as if I am going to be part of a band. This is teaching me the importance of counting and keeping the rhythm for me and for others. It basically helps me to have a structure. Thank you Brian

Max has been on time every time. He has established a very good rapport with my 15 year old (!!!) son which results in my son doing the homework and not dreading the sessions. My son seems relieved to be understanding the Algebra II concepts that he missed during the past term. He also seems way more confident and in a much better mood as if solving this issue for school was weighing him down before. In addition Max is very pleasant, very polite so his presence is welcomed by the rest of the family. Thanks!!!

I’ve been playing guitar for 24 years, have played in many bands across a wide range of genres. I aim for my students to be versatile and well-rounded, able to pick, strum, tap, bend, squeal, sweep, read, write, shred, improvise, etc.
If you’re a beginner and don’t know where to start, I’ll guide you step by step through the enigma of the fretboard while ensuring solid technique, theory, and application.
If you’re a seasoned player that just needs to dust off your chops or learn some new tricks for your repertoire, I can help there too.

About Stephen
Why should you take lessons from me?
Well, I started teaching myself piano at age 5. Started playing drums at 10. Went into school band at 11 and played tenor sax in concert and marching band. I picked up guitar at 12 and started my own gigging band and joined the school jazz band. That was the same year I got my first multi-track cassette recorder and have been producing demos and albums ever since. Over the years I've never stopped learning new instruments (just added banjo, flute, and ukulele), never stopped composing, and have gigged with 14+ bands across genres from alt/grunge, rock, to progressive metal, to funk/r&b, reggae, hip hop, industrial/electronic, etc...

Though I didn't attend an expensive university for music like many teachers, earning a BA in game Art/Design gives me a broader expertise from which to draw and a unique
perspective when it comes to music education. I've even been able to integrate my game design experience into my lesson plans with tailor-made Virtual Reality experiences! I think, "why shouldn't you take lessons from me?" would be a much more difficult question to answer.

Every musical success begins with a small note - HR

I have created my own program to teach students from beginner to Advanced levels, I wrote it myself. I wish I would've had a program like that when I began my musical journey with the guitar, I have arranged the subjects in a special order that makes easy the learning process for my students. I like to demystify all theoretical and practical concepts applied to the guitar so the student can easily understand chords, scales, techniques, harmony, improvisation and other subjects that usually take years to master. My goal is to translate all this knowledge at the student's own pace, yielding quick results in 3-6 months.

About Hedras
I began my musical journey when I was 13. At 14 years of age I began to compose and produce my own music. I have composed and produced 4 albums of my own music so far, and have produced for other artists in the genres of Rock, Hip Hop, Pop, and Heavy Metal, most notably the late British actor/singer Sir Christopher Lee (Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit, Dracula, Star Wars and 280+ movies).

As a Touring artist, I have played shows and had Guitar Clinics in 21 countries in Asia, Europe and America (the continent), sponsored by giant guitar maker CORT GUITARS. I also endorse 20+ companies from 3 continents for all the gear I use in the studio or to perform live, like guitars, amps, strings, pickups, guitar picks, cables, gig bags, guitar software, video recorders, audio recorders, pedals, etc., etc. I even have my own brand of shoes made by
some cool artisans artists from Guatemala, my hometown. I also had the honor of featuring on 8+ million of sodas/cola cans from SUPER COLA, Guatemala's own answer to Pepsi and Coke.

I've been featured on the cover of great guitar magazines from Italy like AXE, Music Live from Indonesia and ZERO Guitar Mag from Argentina. I have also had countless articles in other mags.

I've won top prizes at important guitar competitions in London, UK, (Guitar Idol) and Bucharest, Romania (Guitar Ziua Chitarelor 3) when I was 17 and 18 respectively.

In 2016 my father and I founded my own guitar academy named GIG (Guitar Institute of Guatemala) which was a massive hit with more than 300 students enrolled in a period of 2 years, while I also continued teaching private lessons one to one in my spare time between shows and touring the world playing shows and guitar clinics in countries like Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, China, Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Poland, Croatia, The Netherlands, etc. sponsored by giant guitar maker Cort Guitars, who made my own signature guitar.

Regarding the teaching experience with me, you can expect a fun and customized lesson, we can go as low and as fast you wish. I have plenty of materials that can help you achieve your goals.

I can teach you anything from Shredding Rock to Jazz. Just check me out playing live on my YT Channel HedrasRamosLive.

As a tone freak, I can show you how to get a fat, warm, great and pleasant tone for your guitar/amp and teach you things related to the production of albums and composing if this is something you would like to pursue, just feel free to ask me.
