Jonathan S., a native of Manhattan New York City, is an experienced and seasoned professional musician, trumpeter, and teacher. Over the past 14 years he has appeared on TV and radio broadcasts with his own quintet or with many other ethnically and culturally diverse artists and groups from around the globe. Jonathan has already been recognized as one of the best young jazz trumpet players in the United States, and the world, by not only securing first place in the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Improvisation Competition, but also by competing as one of 5 world-wide finalists in the Carmine Caruso Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition. Major jazz publications have compared S's music to that of Dave Douglas, Miles Davis, John Zorn and even "the Blue Note records of the early 1960's. Jonathan is also a dedicated and qualified educator, specializing in trumpet, composition, arranging, transcribing, ear training, piano/keyboard, music theory, and music history. He runs a private studio, and teaches on behalf of the Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York, and the Afro-Latin Jazz Academy of Music.

Everyone is unique and will play a musical instrument differently and for different reasons, so I will cater what we work on, and what you will practice, based on YOUR individual curiosity, interests and personal goals. I will encourage and help you to discover your own musical voice, and at the same time make sure you develop the best physical and mental habits possible regarding playing an instrument. You will learn to develop deep control over the instrument, and discover why playing music is such a remarkable thing to be able to participate in.

Jonathan S. is a native of New York City. He is an experienced and seasoned professional musician, trumpeter, and teacher. Although Jazz is his main concentration, Jonathan has been playing many ethnically and culturally diverse musical styles from all over the world for over 14 years. He has extensive performance experience in a wide variety of environments, and by having studied with many of the world's best musicians, Jonathan's teaching methodologies, as well as his musical and technical abilities are well rounded, and shine with a high level of consistency. He won first place in the 2007 International Trumpet Guild Jazz Solo Competition, and competed as a finalist in the 2009 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Competition. Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance.
With over 10 years of experience teaching in both private and classroom settings Jonathan has developed an efficiency in his lessons that lead to a student discovering their own potential.

I have trumpet and piano method books that cover a wide range of techniques, styles, tempos, feels, keys, and almost all other aspects of western tertiary harmony and melody.
I also have an abundance of sheet music, which includes my own personal collective sheet-music library of jazz, classical, big band, and other world music genres. I also have an 80 GB library of audio recordings that span many genres, and time periods.
In addition, I possess improvised solo transcriptions for analysis and personal practice applications, as well as adequate musical inscription tools and recording/playback devices.

I have been studying, and performing as a trumpeter for for over 14 years, and have earned two degrees in the field of Jazz Studies/Trumpet Performance. I have extensive experience performing, both locally, world-wide, and on the road, as a touring musician.
The instrument I specialize in is the trumpet, which I have been playing for the past 14 years. I have also been working with the piano for the past 9 years, and can be of help to beginners, and anyone who is looking to understand music more in any capacity. I have 6 years of music conservatory training, and can assist people in just about every aspect of music. I have a special interest in improvisational music, but also have just as much experience with classical styles, as well as various world musics. I have been teaching and coaching individuals of all ages, skill levels, backgrounds, and goals since 2009.

Most of my physical fitness training has come from the U.S. Army. I am a Veteran of Active Duty and currently serving as an Army Reservist. I have earned several Army Physical Fitness Excellence badges for having high/maximum test scores on APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test). The other part of my training comes from karate. I currently study Isshinryu Karate, which include endurance, strength and conditioning training. While living in Boston I used to give private fitness instruction to students and would incorporate stretching exercises into my lessons for music students. I am able to teach fitness to all ages, but must have a current physical completed by a doctor prior to training. I write training programs for each individual based on their needs and goals.
I have worked in the for many years in a variety of cuisines, but my main focus is Rustic Italian. I attended the Culinary Arts program while a student at Daytona Beach Community College, FL and was one of the first to start the Culinary Management program. Over the years I have learned new skills, which I like to pass on to my students, that include, Irish bar fare, American BBQ, Country-style French cuisine, and game meats. I also teach campfire cooking that include fire building basics and cooking methods. While living in Boston I had weekly classes that would teach students to create meals on a budget, yet use quality ingredients. I have experience working as a Chef Grillardin, Chef Garde-Manger , Chef Potager, Chef saucier, Glacier, Tournant (swing cook), and a Food and Beverage Manager.
I have been playing music for 17 years and come from a very musical family. Even though my principle instrument is the drum kit, I am also sharpening my skills as a bassist, pianist, guitarist. I enjoy many different types of music and typically play pop, jazz, rock, Latin, R&B, soul, funk and fusion. I have been fortunate enough to have been able to attend Berklee College of Music back in 2004, which is when I started teaching music lessons around the Boston area. I am self taught, which gives me an insight to the frustration that some student endure during their beginning stages of learning. I have had the opportunity to have played with several musicians in Florida including, Reed Waddle, Phil Bonanno, Sergei Kossenko, TC Castillo and Lauren Ellis. I was also a Stage Production Manager for The Ultimate Thriller Show and have worked as a Production Assistant on several video production projects, so you could say that entertainment is in my blood. I take the time to create individual lesson plans based on the students ability and goals.
