John R. Astoria, NY

I have played competitive basketball since childhood and I am particularly skilled in ball control as well as shooting.

About John

My name is John R. and I'm an experienced teacher/tutor.
In addition to my eight years working as a teacher at a private school here in NY, I have tutored many students in subjects ranging from math, science, social studies, reading, and writing, to arts (piano, guitar) and even athletics (I've played both basketball & soccer at a high level). I'm very familiar with common- core curriculum, but I also try to gear my teaching towards an individual's particular skills and education history. Also, while in graduate school I tutored several undergraduate students in philosophy and psychology. Finally, I spend a lot of time working with autistic individuals and its something that is very close to my heart. I adhere to the principles of ABA and am fully capable of ...

Soccer · In studio
When my son started soccer at age five, he really struggled and didn't enjoy the game the way I'd hoped. Within a few months of working with Jack (John) though, hes become one of the better players on the team and even made the local travel team. Best of all, though, he really seems to enjoy playing now and seems confident out on the field!

Basketball · In studio
John truly understands the game and was able to teach all the basic skills to my son. Unfortunately, due to a recent move I was unable to continue with the lessons. I think he is a very good teacher though.

Basic Math · In studio
John helped my son to understand math via this new common-core curriculum, which I myself struggled to grasp. I know many parents like me were taught very differently, but John is very good at understanding both where I'm coming from and this common-core stuff. Excellent!

I've relied on Matt as an outside-consultant for numerous projects over the past decade - everything from business plans from scratch to my most recent project, a bi-coastal film festival tour. Matt's past experiences as an individual entrepreneur, event planner, and as a creative individual have made his insights consistently invaluable to me. What I appreciate most about Matt is his ability to listen and ask me questions that push my own thinking and creative process in new, unexpected directions. He is pragmatic, honest, and inspiring - everything I need in a consultant. I cannot recommend Matt highly enough, and I know I will be using his services for years to come.
