Private Violin Teacher

I feel what makes taking lessons with me unique is my experience teaching private violin and viola lessons in Texas public schools (grades 6-12) and my career as a professional musician having performed in many orchestral, opera, and chamber music settings. Through the lens of that performed experience, I know how crucial an education that includes classical music can be in a student’s overall academic development and maturation. Though not everyone pursues music as a career, no matter the student’s age, I wish to ultimately be a positive support system in fostering their development in their mirrored desirability to make classical music and incorporate it's richness and beauty into their life.

About Michael

Howdy! Thank you for taking the time to check out my page! I am a musician based in Dallas, TX, and I mainly perform in orchestras across the North Texas and Louisiana area as an orchestral violist, having played professionally for 10 years. I have also traveled abroad and performed in concer

Michael is an amazing teacher. He has deep understanding of fundamentals and subtleties involved in playing violin. It helped me understand and improve my shortcomings all the way from developing correct muscle memory, bowing techniques and producing the right sound. He has been a very patient teacher and inspires you to keep at it. Michael is very detail oriented - this helps to discover subtle flaws in your playing, which are easy to miss. It has been a great learning experience, and am looking forward to more classes.

Beginners typically take 60 minute classes once per week at a recurring time. Young children typically take half hour classes and older children, adult musicians and those on a budget typically take 45 minute classes. The most common lesson length to start with is 60 minutes, as the teacher will need to tune your instrument and help you get set up. Some students choose to take lessons twice per week when a concert is coming up, to catch up from a vacation or if they just want to make faster progress.

In class, you will learn new techniques, receive guidance on how to achieve the best sound possible and learn songs that you like and that interest you. You are expected to take this guidance and practice it thoroughly at home until you feel comfortable with it, so that when you are in class next, the teacher can move on to a new concept or skill which builds upon the skill practiced at home. They will only move you forward once you can do the more basic technique.

Antoinette is, by far, the best music instructor that I have ever hired. Music has always been a part of my life. As a child, I took piano lessons for years and continued on and off through college. As a complete novice to the violin, I was nervous to begin such a challenging instrument as an adult hobby. Antoinette is encouraging, intelligent and incredibly skilled. Her calm demeanor and patience is vital to one's success. She focuses on the building blocks to a successful technique with ease. I am incredibly grateful to Antoinette for reminding me of how enjoyable music can be. I look forward to our weekly sessions around my busy work schedule. Her location is conveniently located within walking distance from the subway in NYC.

I took violin lessons for a year with an instructor I found through a different organization (not TakeLessons)--and I learned more in one hour with Antoinette than I learned in 30 lessons with that other teacher. In just one lesson, I can see that Antoinette is friendly, smart, encouraging, knows her stuff--and knows how to teach (which not every good player can do). I'm an adult, but I bet she'd be just as great with a student of any age.

Lessons are fun. My philosophy is that students should have music in their lives and benefit from the lessons they take now for years to come. Learning to play a musical instrument will help students with math skills, study habits, and develop a skill that will last for a lifetime.

After 3 months students will understand the fundamentals of their string instrument, know how to care for their instrument, warm up properly, be able to read and play introductory passages. After 6 months the student will have learned basic music theory, how to read music, and have advanced through playing multiple songs.

About Betsy

Music is the biggest passion in my life. I love being able to share that gift with my students, and look forward to their progress as much as my own. I continue to grow and develop as a musician, and love connecting with people through music. My students all learn to love and appreciate music, th

"This is an exceptional Instructor...

I initially joined Take Lessons to provide Piano instruction to my youngest daughter, that did not work out too well. I had already paid in advance and so with the remaining balance I decided to provide My older daughter with Violin Instruction since she is playing for her school.
Peter came in and has improved my daughter's talent in such a short time that it's almost unexplainable. He connects, he's precise, and he's easy going. In no time my daughter could literally read music as per his instruction. He's done wonders.

I highly recommend Peter to anyone looking for the right instructor. Thanks."

"I am happy to leave a very positive review for Dan! I am an adult beginner, and when looking for a violin teacher, I wanted to find someone with professionalism, a good knowledge of the violin, and of course, patience. My grown children had a variety of violin and piano teachers while growing up and I wish I was able to find someone like Dan for them at the time. My two daughters had piano instruction with an intense, very experienced pianist at a prestigious music school. They learned excellent technique, but it was very stressful and only one continues to play as an adult for pleasure. I am so impressed with how Dan has concentrated on a strong foundation of proper violin technique in a patient, gentle manner. I highly recommend him for students of any age. I recommended him to my daughter for my granddaughter who is 6 years old. His studio would be far for my daughter to get to, but it would be well worth the commute!"

Think you don't have enough time to practice violin? Think again! We all have days where we're short on time, but that doesn't mean you should skip practice altogether. Here, Austin, TX violin instructor Naomi Cherie S. shows you how to get an effective violin practice session in only 15 minutes... We've all heard it before: "Practice makes perfect!" How Are French Violins Made?

Violins as we know them today really started to evolve from the 16th century. In fact, Andrea Amati, the patriarch of that violin making family, was born in 1505, although it wasn’t until 1555 that he created his first violin at the request of an Italian statesman by the name of Lorenzo De’ Medici. By the end of the century, his grandson, Nicolo, had been born and it was he who would eventually become the most eminent member of the family. They hailed from Cremona, a city in the north of …
