Use them how you would like! I've been teaching ASL for 23 years and my students have gone on to develop a deep love of ASL and Deaf culture! I am passionate about teaching, Deaf ministry, and ASL! Within the first few lessons, you'll start signing simple sentences and as time goes on, you'll be able to converse with people who are Deaf! You will also be learning about the culture of Deaf people at the same time. PRACTICE PARTNER/SIGN COACH? Nervous about meeting people who are deaf? I have seen first hand how it actually speeds up the speech development process and has given them stronger conceptual skills.
