A passionate, cheerful, and patient professional language educator with decades of experience. A native speaker of Russian who got her first advanced degree in the former Soviet Union and a fluent speaker of Latin American Spanish. Currently, Adjunct Russian Faculty of the Monterey Institute of International Studies and former Assistant Professor of Russian with the Defense Language Institute (excellent letters of recommendations available upon request). I have two advanced language teaching degrees, one from the former Soviet Union (1988) and the other one from a CSU (M.A., 2010). I teach only US-based persons: teenagers and those adults who need to learn a language for a specific purpose: university students, professionals, clergy, government officials, and business people. You can take my lessons either online or in person (either in your office or mine, but not in your residence) if you live in the Greater Sacramento area) or through a combination of both. Wherever I teach, I create a stress-free, encouraging environment!

I can't say enough good things about my time studying with Tess. I've been studying Russian off and on for the last 25 years, and I think she's the best instructor I've had. Tess is a patient and extremely knowledgeable instructor who applies sound pedagogical practices. Unlike many native speakers, she is thoroughly familiar with American English and American culture, so was able to easily relate concepts in terms I could understand. Most importantly, she makes language study fun!

It is with great pleasure that I write this recommendation for Tess. She is a highly accomplished translator, educator, and mentor whose skills and expertise lie in having a deep, intricate knowledge and understanding of Latin American and Russian culture. As Tess' Russian language student and as a professional with experience working overseas, I hold her in very high regard. She is one of the most conscientious educators I know and she offers considerable value for her students when it comes to language instruction given her experience teaching at the prestigious Monterey Institute of International Studies and her work for the US State Department in Uzbekistan . Not only do hold her in high regard professionally, but am very privileged to call her a friend. For these reasons, it is with great pleasure that I recommend Tess.

I had the amazing opportunity to meet and be taught by Tess through Monterey Institute of International Studies' Russian Summer Intensive Language Program 2014. She was the substitute for our Russian teacher for a week and I really enjoyed her teaching methods! Tess teaches in a natural way that significantly improves fluency by teaching vocabulary and grammar in a real life context. It allows you to learn complicated grammatical concepts in a natural way. She has great suggestions and information on how to support your brain in learning a language efficiently; which I highly appreciated her sharing. Tess is interested in your personal success in the language and prioritizes your individual need of specific vocabulary for your field of study. Tess is more than qualified to provide the support you need in your language of study. I highly recommend Tess as a language teacher! (My qualifications for this review: I have experience of being both teacher and student of foreign languages. I am a certified TEFL/ESL teacher and I have 6 years cumulative experience of learning 2 foreign languages: Russian & Spanish.)
