Good conversation makes life worth discovering (and living). I've been fascinated by the power of the Classical and English languages (and Classical and English literature) to open up the life of the mind and conversation for anyone who allows herself or himself to become absorbed by them ever since I read Tolkien in grade school. A poet myself, I see language as a way to bring life to language and language to life. An encounter with Latin grammar and Roman literature in dialogue with the right teacher is undoubtedly the most effective ways to begin the lifelong quest for right engagement with literature, right relationship with the world and right activity within it.
