Gardening

Beginner

There was a time when I NEVER gardened.  Actually, I would NEVER even think of digging in the dirt. Then I started gardening with my students and the benefits of gardening for both the children AND me was absolutely addictive.  

Fast-forward to the present day, I led a garden build in 2015 for my school (Bullock Children's Garden in Glassboro, NJ) and in 2017 I started a nonprofit where we help schools and organizations build and maintain learning gardens for children. 

 Most recently, I've been leading workshops for adults on beginning gardening using repurposed/recycled materials.  I also teach the Junior Master Gardening program to children.

Hi!  I'm Sonya.  I was a 23-year special education teacher veteran prior to retiring this year to run my nonprofit organization (The Bullock Garden Project) full-time.  

In 2015 I spearheaded the award-winning Bullock Children's Garden at my elementary school, to assist in teaching across the curriculum through garden education.   This led to the formation of my nonprofit organization.  I speak around the US about incorporating garden education AND I lead workshops teaching adults how to get started with gardening.
