As a fully qualified Chinese teacher I have been teaching Mandarin for 20 years in both China and the United States. I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of Mandarin skills. For adult learners, speaking Chinese does not seem easy, but I can help you understand and master the tones of the Chinese phonetic alphabet in a short time. Within the first few lessons, you'll start speaking simple sentences and, as time goes by, you'll be able to use Mandarin like a pro! For young learners, we can start by recognizing the Chinese characters, or singing Chinese children's songs. If you are an advanced Chinese learner, we can practice reading some Chinese articles and discuss the topics. I also specialize in Chinese writing so, if you need to improve your writing skills, I can help you. I love working with students of all levels and look forward to seeing you soon.

Hello, My name is Qian. I have 18 years experience as a Mandarin Chinese teacher in both China and the United States. I have worked in the States teaching Mandarin as a second language to K-12 level and college students for 6 years. I also hosted a Distance Chinese class for beginners at Portland State University. I graduated from Wuhan University with a Master's in TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages). I enjoy helping my students learn to speak Mandarin from the beginning and build up their Chinese vocabulary by playing games using characters. From listening and speaking to reading and writing we can practice all these subjects in class. I always enjoy creating personalized text with Chinese characters to enhance reading skills for my students. Let me know if you have any questions about learning Mandarin. Teacher Li is a great teacher. Very patient and encouraging. She plans out the lessons well and accordingly to what you requested. She is extremely prompt as well and always make up the time if there were technical issues, which has happened to me twice already.

Qian (Sophie) is a fantastic instructor. My husband, teenage boys and I all take lessons with her. She is very patient with students who have no prior exposure (husband and kids) with the language. She is able to tailor her approach for students at different levels and engage my family in learning Mandarin! She is also reliable and punctual! We will continue to take lessons with Qian!

Super great teacher! She helps to make a lesson plan focused on what you need or want, for instance, helping me with conversational Chinese and reviewing characters. Instead of PowerPoint slideshows, she has me prepare little projects like talking about what I did last summer, or talking about my job. It really helps me get used to topics in Chinese that I would regularly speak about. Super friendly and super fun!
